Wheel Cleaning

Just for a "what it's worth" comment, yesterday as I was washing my ride, I was figuring out the best way to wash these deep ZL1 rims. Its hard to get your hand all the way to the back and clean them good.

A thought came to me, and I went into the garage and retrieved my "webster"...You know, the handy brush that we use to knock down cobwebs, etc....Its round in shape, soft bristles, which made it perect for getting between the spokes and cleaning all of the deep rim behind the spokes...

Just something I wanted to pass on.....Worked great

This is a great idea, and probably cheaper than the flexible wheel brush I bought just to clean the wheels. You'll be using it a lot to clean the soot (brake dust) off the wheels. I have the polished wheels and the brake dust accumulates in the outer ridge.

Yep, been there done that. I'm using a nice mop like sponge and I get it all soaped up and just reach my hand between the spokes of the wheel and wash the back inner side of the rim. Removes all that brake dust.

After struggling to keep my black 10-spoke wheels clean, I did some research and bought one of these:

http://www.autogeek.net/ezdebrfca.html

It works wonders and gets all of the annoying brake dust off, even from deep inside the wheels.

Nice, Deke.

Maybe I won't have to get ceramic pads now.

I still switched to ceramic pads! This just makes the job of cleaning these wide wheels a ton easier.

That's the brush I purchased. It even fits between the calipers and the inside of the wheel. It works great and saves a lot of time.

Thanks for the link! I've not been very satisfied with the brushes I've tried so far, but it looks like this one will do the trick.

Wow, I didn't realize that everyone was in the market for a good wheel brush! I hope you all like it.

As far as cleaner go, since getting this brush I haven't felt like I needed to use any. I did buy the Detailers Pro Wheel Cleaner that is supposed to be safe on our black wheels, but I haven't even tried it out. Soap and water and this brush do a great job on their own.

I use a microfiber duster that costs a dollar to get inside my wheels.
