Best way to put the car on jack/stands?

Hey guys. Don't have any of these in my garage and want to paint my calipers. For those of you that have done this, what is the best way to get the car up and on stands without causing any damage? Also, should I buy specific jack/stands? Recommendations please.

What about size? Would you go with 2 ton, 3.5 ton, etc? The heavier the better? Does it matter?

2 tons =4000lbs which is more than enough since you really only lift half the car up at a time.

So, lift the front end, put on stands, then lift the back and put on stands? Is there a better resting spot to have the hydraulic jack sitting at while the car is on stands?

Its potentially your life at stake, so don't go cheap on a jack and jack stands. Google some stories about jack stand failure.

There are plenty of horror stories out there of people getting crushed by there car because they were not careful on the procedure to safely lift a car

I wish I knew about that wooden block earlier. In my last car, I punctured a hole in it. It then began to rust like crazy underneath. Least the paint looked good.
