MGW SHORT SHIFTER OWNERS PLEASE READ>>>

hey guys,

i am constantly working on improving the function and performance of our shifter and have noticed something that may or may not affect all cars but in my case in a new 2011 1ss car it made a difference...

as you guys know we make our own linkage pin that connects the linkage arm to the lower linkage on our shifter. we do this because the stock pin is a bit too large in diameter for our special poly bushings.

well its only about .004" smaller but apparently some of the machined arms from the factory are looser than others so mine had quite a bit of play in it and when i installed the shifter and test drove it with the retro shaft i was getting a bit of tinging buzz at certain rpms. mainly in 3rd and 4th.

SOOO... as it turns out i made some NEW bushings for the GT500 shifter we just developed which uses a metric shoulder bolt and damned if the size isnt perfect for using the stock linkage pin.

so i am removing this pin from the kit which lowers the shifter price to 340.00 and using the red bushings in the kits forward from now.

what does this mean to existing customers???

if you have a little buzzing then email me or call julie or peggy and they can mail you out the red bushings to swap out on the linkage. you do NOT have to remove the shifter. just loosen the nuts that hold the rear bushing bracket and lower it down and slide it off. then remove the lower dust boot and push the linkage arm out of the way after removing the mgw pin. then swap out the blue bushings for the red ones and then make sure you put the OEM pin with the TWO clips in place of the MGW pin.

again...this will and has not affected all cars as i have installed PLENTY with no noise like this but it may be just a variance in tolerance or possibly even the linakge arm being sourced from a different vendor by GM.

regards
george

if you have received your shifter then yes it does... BUT..that doesnt mean that yours will rattle ...only SOME cars have issues.

but if you are concerned then call julie and have her mail you the bushings out... but like i said i have NOT seen this issue until these 2011s

OK,

I appreciate it. I'll let the shop who is installing this know about it. I am sure they know a whole lot more than I do, LOL

What good customer service. Theres not many companies out there that will do a design change and mention it to their customers if they have a problem.

MGW shifter will be in my future (already have race knob).

George -

I've had my shifter in since around January I believe....and I absolutely LOVE it. However, I do believe I have the tinging/rattle you are describing. I have never mentioned it or anything simply because I love the shifter SO much; I figured it was just a "pay to play" scenario wherein I could accept a little more noise for a 714% improvement in feel over stock. I noticed during install that that the oem linkage pin fit just as well as the one you supplied, if not better; I put your pin in anyways. So this makes me suspect I am on the "more loose" side of things.

I am running the retro "SS" ball with the super short stick piece (ball sits right on top of leather boot). It is most pronounced in the 3/4 gates and is louder when resting my hand on the shifter (which I typically don't).

Any who, I know I'm long-winded, but I would like to try out the aforementioned "shoulder bolt". Is this something I can get down at a hardware store? If not I will gladly pay for it; I've gotten my money's worth out of that shifter already! I get lots of compliments. Thanks for being at the crossroads of form and function, MGW.

EDIT: Oops. Misread that a little bit. I will need the red bushings and not a bolt, I understand. Will e-mail. Thanks again!

P.S. This ain't no short shifter - - Its a cog commander!

George,

I purchased my shifter on Sep 8th. Your website had the price listed as $350 and that is what I was charged. The shifter should be showing up sometime this coming week. Do you know if it has the red bushings and minus the pin? If so, why do your prices still reflect a cost of $350? it was order #036832.

It is nice that you are letting everyone know about the design change and I may just have gotten caught up in the change-over. Still I just checked your website tonight and you still have the price for the shifter listed as $350. I will let you know what actually shows up.

I look forward to a quality product and install.

hey guys,

actually i did not lower the price as i have ADDED a new part to the kit also which is a clip for the front of the boot to keep it from sagging and it worked out to be a wash....

this piece also is not totally necessary if you have no noise but i decided to make it to give the boot the support in the front to make it as sealed as possible.

what i would like to do is ANYBODY that has bought our shifter either direct or from a perf. shop or even used i dont care and would like to try the new bushings and this clip please call julie or peggy ...dont PM me as i will forget lol

regards
george
