Why are stripes done at the factory?

If this question was answered in this or any other thread, I apoligize. Why are the stripes done at the factory and not at the dealership? I would think they could get the cars out quicker if they would have the dealership do them. I would think that it only takes a day or two to do them at the dealership, but to have the factory do them, delays the shipping 1-2 weeks. If more people want stripes, that means it would cause for more of a delay.

I don't know the correct answer..but my best guess would be specialization. MOST of the time the factory will install the stripes better and with fewer mistakes which saves $$.

More money than to ship the cars to the striping shop, and then to ship the cars back to the factory before they are put on the railcars?

I believe there have been numerous complaints with the dealer-installed but I do not have a definitive answer.

it doesn't take 2-3 WEEKS to get it done, It only took 3 days from the time my car left the line, trucked to the striping facility, trucked back to be shipped out by rail. NOT 2 to 3 weeks. not to mention, I would rather have pros install them, insted of bozo's at the dealerships that that is NOT there primary job.

Well our dealership actually does sub-contract out to get the stripes installed by proffessional, instead of some bozo. At no extra charge BTW.

Stripes at the factory don't add much of a delay at all. When production first started, there was a bit of a backlog, but that hasn't been the case in a while.

My car was built 9/2/09. The window sticker showed up on 9/12/09. Arrived at the dealer on 9/17/09

Is 10 days for stripes "not too long?" My car moved 325 miles. I would just tell anyone who got stripes to add 10 days to their order because of that.

Mine had factory stripes installed. The car was built on the 9/3/09. The window sticker showed up 9/12/09 and is still sitting at the factory waiting to be shipped as of 9/18/09. It must go faster for some folks than others.

My car has been done since 9/12 - it was supposed to get the stripes installed. I dont know what the delay is but now 9 days later the car is still sitting in Canada and has not gotten on the truck to Michigan.

As for why GM would do it at factory - Scotty nailed it. Why should they pay to have the dealers install them when they can negotiate a low price and get them all installed locally.

Because of so many complaints. as of 8/31, all TPW's of 9/1 and after, ALL RALLY STRIPES are installed at the factory. Prior to that only the White and the CG were installed at the factory, all others were done at the dealer.....if you didn't get stripes on your car when your ordered it, you can still the stripe package at your dealer and have them installed any where you want.
