Need Advice

I am thinking about adding long tube headers to my ride. I went by a local shop and was told they would not suggest it. They said I would not get much out of it in terms of HP or the loud tone I was looking for. They suggested doing a. LS3 conversion and said I would get more out of that. From reading here, that is only good for around 26HP. I am confused on why I am being told something that doesn’t seem to be the norm. It was also suggested I’d only see about 15hp from adding the LTH. What is you guys opinion on this? I’d hate to waste money on adding the headers if its not going to do anything. Current the exhaust is Solo Performance from the manifold back and the car was already tuned by Ted. Thanks in advance for your expert opinions.

Depends, header brand/build ie collector design how well it scavenges the exhaust as well as the primary length to one another, size, how much air you have coming in the engine, and flowing out the heads etc. Could be a decent increase in power or a little. Overall long tubes are a better design over manifolds, but only if the collectors are made properly.

Which shop was it? I'm in FL too.

Sounds like your local shop doesn't know much about these cars. Intake exhaust and tune seem to be good for around 40hp. You don't have to do an ls3 conversion but getting rid of the afm lifters isnt a bad idea. If you go with a performance cam you're looking at another hp gain and will be in the mid 400s depending on the cam. 3.91 gears, higher stall and you're rippin pretty good.

Long tubes make a pretty good difference along with a tune. Good for 30ish hp normally. Car will get louder, that is a fact. That shop shouldnt be trusted imo.

I was planning on getting the stainless power and having Ted re-tune the car. I was pretty shocked when the guy said that. Its completely opposite of everything I have ever heard, been told or read. Granted I know when you get LTs you get a tune also and the tune contributes to the HP gain. I already have the tune and have no clue how much HP comes only from the headers but I would have figured more than 10-15. The shop was Frankestein Motorsports.

Yeah I thought that sounded a bit off. Seemed like a really nice guy and they have tons of nice cars around they have built out. Once he said that though my gut started screaming this is wrong. I mean to say I wouldn't get but 15hp is bad but then to say it wouldn't get any louder seemed out there. What is the going rate for install on LTs? Two shops here have quoted 6-700.

I bought speed engineering for $360. I did have to dimple the passenger side to clear the frame, some don't have to. Have them out to be coated for $300 currently. Texas speed has a budget friendly set as well. It's pretty easy job but if that is 6-700 installed that is pretty fair depending on what they are selling you.

The 6-700 is just labor. I would be providing the headers. I was looking at the Stainless Power from Ted because he would re-tune the car at no charge, getting them anywhere else will have the added cost of a re-tune. I may not coat them too since the labor was much higher than I really expected.

That is really high. That is MAX a 3 hour job.... I just pulled mine off working on the on the ground in an hour. You shouldn't be paying more than a few hundred to have them installed in my opinion. Ted will provide the tune but you will still have to buy the handheld tuner if you don't already have one.
I would shop around more for the labor to install.

Already have the tuner. I purchased it from him and he tuned it the car for the things that are already on it. I thought it sounded high when I kept reading people here did it in 2.5 hours in their own garage. Seems like these guys should be able to do it quicker not slower. Im not paying for their chit chat time lol.

Well the LS3 conversion will cost quite a bit more for starters. More then likely, depending on the cam you select you will need better exhaust flow to maximize the cams potential. So now your back to needing a set of headers. Not sure what they are thinking or trying to achieve.
