Looks likes the driver was coming in too hot & freaked & locked up the brakes. they might have been talking about the cars data or something, not really paying attention. it happens.

Well, on the plus side they probably learned more about the car when it crashed than they would have if things had gone well.
Unfortunately, it also means they're going to be down a tester until this one can be fixed or replaced. Quote:

I raced Turbo/Intercooled Grand Nationals for years - I know what a V6 Turbo exhaust note sounds like and this car is DEFINITELY no V6.

These guys driving GM prototypes at the Ring are very skilled drivers. There was definitely some sort of mechanical failure for that accident to happen. Weird.

It's interesting that manual car didn't have the hash marks (well - one of the cars didn't). Or was it the slushbox that had the hash marks?... I wonder if they were tuning the shocks or just collecting telemetry since they had a laptop in there. That whole video is pretty cool and the car just sounds great.

Ouch! Hopefully just a malfunction in the ABS. Like it has been said, this is why they test these cars. Still unfortunate

I didn't see any obvious malfunction, though it could have had one. To me, it looked more like the driver simply forgot which corner was coming up. Kinda tough to tell, but it looks like he's at Adenauer Forst (https://youtu.be/WU7GDxbNjDM?t=3m).
That's a section of blind corners that are very sharp. He comes out of the righthander, and is expecting to be on the gas. But, what follows is a hard left, and another hard right. He simply had too much speed, and slammed the brakes. Also, concerning ABS. Watch the original video of the crash, and at 1:26 you can see the tire tread. Those don't look like treaded tires. They look like slicks. And, slicks will play havoc with ABS. So much so, that in other cars, ABS will actually not work (4th Gen F-body - ABS simply stops working after a while). They may have disabled it completely, or it went off by itself. Of course, all this is completely conjecture. |

You can see here, the rear breaks locked first (not spining at all), then the front and caused it to go side ways.

All that power. Guess GM hasn't figured out to safely get the power to the ground yet.
