I'm sure that was great for the employees. And in retrospect doing something for them was pretty cool for that alone. Just making us watch for 30 minutes and not even using the car was a bit much.

I read the press releases yesterday on the C7 Z06 and one tidbit stuck out to me. The LT4 is also going to be produced in Tonowanda, NY. Could that possibly mean a more mass produced version for Cadilac and next gen Camaro?

Fen posted that according to Autoblog, there won't be a ZR1 this generation which makes calling this Z06 even more strange.

My guess is you will be able to option up the Z06 to include some of the premium amenities that were in the ZR1. In the end the engine and feature were the differentiator. The engine now surpasses it.

New F150 is all aluminum, 700 lbs lighter and 20% better MPG.
Your thoughts?

On the flip side I was left slack jawed and drooling in boredom with the new Mustang, what a missed opportunity there, sheesh. YAWN!

When Ford was likely making decisions on the use of aluminum there was a greater fear of higher gas prices.
Aluminum is 3x the price of steel and puts the Ford at a big cost disadvantage.......for now. Also aluminum, although Ford made a pretty bold statement saying it was stronger, damages easier and can be more difficult to repair. Also GM has had a huge advantage in full size truck weight for years. This big announcement by Ford May at best give them a 200 pound advantage at the cost of a very premium material.

A resurrection of the DuraMax (BabyMax?) 4.5L diesel project could be a image-changer for SilverSierra.

Our original intent was to do an NA engine, we were unable to achieve all of our performance, durability, and regulatory (emissions) goals with NA. We weren't even close. You couldn't just do DI, VVT, no cylinder deactivation, 7.0 liter motor with the increase we would have wanted. New regs could have led to a horsepower decrease. |
