Navigation?

Do any 2020 models of the camaro come with navigation built in? If not then why?

It is through on star if you pay for it. Apple car play will show the turn by turn off your phone on the dash if you don’t want to pay for OnStar

Why would you want it??? Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and go from there...

I specifically ordered my 2020 2SS without "Navigation" as in this day and age, "navigation" is the biggest rip-off of anything on a new car... You have it all on your phone...

I believe it will. That's a great feature.

I agree for the most part. But some people might like the built in navigation because it shows up on the hud.

I like built in nav because I'm not getting raped by my carrier for a data plan that I'll never use. My plan has 1G/mo and I use <100M/mo

The few places where the factory nav systems work better than phone based systems are when driving through tunnels - or somewhere out in the country where there is no cell coverage.
The satellite signal used for the nav system is stronger than a cell signal.
I have to drive into D.C. every once in awhile. As soon as I enter a tunnel, Waze stops updating. Some of the tunnels in D.C. have exits within the tunnel. If you are relying on Waze or any other cell based nav system, you are screwed. But the satellite based nav continues to work fine.

Having said that, I never ever use the factory nav. Waze has way too many advantages.

One of the "Premium 3" audio options includes factory navigation and is an option that can be added for $495. Otherwise, you can get "turn-by-turn" directions through OnStar as a subscription.

For what's left on the lots right now, across the country, there are about 450 cars that have that option. There are about two dozen within a 100 miles of you, mostly in the 2SS trim. As you start filtering out based on other criteria, that number is going to drop quickly.

I got the navigation (on my 2017) as an option and am very pleased with it. The signal is very reliable, maps are accurate, and the map upgrade was relatively inexpensive. Also previously noted, having the navigation on the HUD is something I never thought that I would care about but now absolutely love. Finding a location in poor visibility is MUCH easier with the HUD showing names of streets and where to turn.

Auto navigation systems typically acquire GPS signal from at least 3 or 4 satellites which provides the ability to correctly locate in the first place. Once locked, it should track quite reliably in almost all situations except for going through tunnels more than about 1000' long as the car will do a reasonably good job at "guessing" your location based on prior movement for a short bit.

HUD and the DIC, plus it also displays current speed limits in the cluster. I do have Waze and AA, but hardly feel the need to use them, I prefer a nice integrated solution (yes, I know it's a "ripoff", they charge a lot for map updates, too).

One of the few times I actually used Google Maps it guided me right past the destination and told me to turn back half a mile later... Its UI looks better for sure, but one easily gets used to any interface that is good or at least halfway decent.

To each their own, I guess

I saw this unit advertised. Supposed to be a direct swap for the factory radio except it has built in Navigation.

I wouldn't go this route without a fair amount of additional research. HD Radio isn't an option in the 2020 models and they claim that this head unit has it. Also, they cite navigation integration with the gauge cluster but make no mention of it on the HUD.

In other words, while it may work in the car, the car may not work correctly "around it."

EDIT: I just found out that the navigation component can only be added if the car originally came with the 8" non-NAVI unit, and the cost of the upgrade kit from GM is $425 as all it is is a NAVI card and a software flash. The link provided above appears to be a company that's doing all of the work "out of the car" and relying on the owners to swap non-flashed units for flashed units. Maybe?

Either way... It's cheaper and warrantied if you get it from the dealership it seems.
