2009 Pontiac G8 GXP priced at $39,995

Quote:
Pricing for the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP has leaked out and your budget E39 M5 fantasies can be fulfilled for the princely sum of $39,995. That price includes the $1,700 gas-guzzler charge and the $685 destination fee on the base automatic-equipped model.

The six-speed manual will set you back an additional $695 (just do it) and the sunroof can be yours for another $900. As expected, fuel economy is far from stellar at 13 mpg city and 20 mpg on the highway, but judging by Jonathan's review, the additional fuel costs are well worth the pavement-punishing fun you'll have in the most powerful production Pontiac to date.

Why does this have a "guzzler" tax? Can't they put AFM on it like the Camaro?

I was seriously contemplating this vs the 2SS. The thing is beautiful (to me), but I don't think I can justify the 6k pricejump for the same (or lesser) performance.

this is why GM is in a mess....they build this for 40,000.Why could'nt they have updated
the GTO or gone the way of a new TRANS AM FIREBIRD.If i wanted a four door performance car i'll buy V8 CTS-V.

For the market it is competing in it is a good price.

I'll ask it again though...if this thing has a gas guzzler tax what says the Camaro won't? The G8 GXP is only about 200 lbs heavier.

wow this is what i thought the SS would be priced; you guys are getting a deal on the SS, the thing should cost no less than 36K for the base model and about this for the loaded one... chevy has to be losing money selling the camaro ss for what they are, be happy those who are ordering one

It certainly is a great looking car!

Good price too but I like the GXP!! That adds a few more thousand!

The gas tax comes when the car can't combine city/hwy milage for more than 21 I think?

Because 60k is better than 40k... This is coming from someone that payed too much for a Roush Mustang over a regular one.

How did the value of that Roush turn out, My dad thought about a stage 3 before. He took me with him to look at it, and he was just about to buy when he asked me what i thought of it. I told him it was just another pos mustang, he though about it for another minute and decided to just go home. LOL, he keeps looking at them, but he can't get over how cheap the interior looks.

People who can spend that on a car will probably get a Vette or BMW. Most people who don't frequent this kind of forum probably don't even know what a G8 is or that it even exists. If I had that kind of coin available I would get a 2SS/RS Camaro, not a G8.

At that price, you might as well get a Corvette that's been sitting on the lot for too long. I understand that the competition is more, but I have to image sales would be higher if they could take off a couple grand.
