Will adding an air intake, headers & exhaust cause car to check engine light?
Will adding an air intake, headers & exhaust cause my camaro to check engine light?
I want to do a couple basic mods but Iam worried that the check engine light will turn on, I do NOT want to get a tune b/c that voids the warranty. Also, To those who have done exhaust headers and CAI , do you really feel a differance? |

intake no. headers maybe depends on what you get. exhaust no. and yes you should feel a difference with it all on but not that much.

With shorties, intake, and exhaust, car should feel more "spirited", and you should notice better low end response and power, and likely won't get a CEL. It will definitely add HP and TQ, but won't be a huge difference.
With long tubes instead of shorties you will notice an more of a performance improvement, but a CEL is very very likely.

Long tube will most certainly throw a CEL... some folks have been able to avoid it with spark plug anti-foulers...
Shorty headers... well, the JBAs are kind of hit and miss... some have gotten CELs while others have not. The problem seems to be he the stacker flange... Folks with the Doug Thorley shorty headers haven't reported any CELs which is probably due to the fact thy don't use a flange, they are welded. A properly installed intake should not cause a CEL... Cat back or axle back exhaust will not cause a CEL.... As for can you feel the difference... the only thing I really could feel was when I installed my Injen CAI... definitely felt the improvement..

On my LS3 I have a Cold Air Induction CAI, BBK stainless shorty headers and GMPP "touring mufflers" installed on the factory exhaust pipes, the factory resonators and "H" pipe are still intact. About 4K miles and no CEL.

Most cat-back and axle-back exhausts will not cause a CEL.
Most intakes will not cause a CEL. Doug Thorley Shorty Headers will not cause a CEL and are made in Southern California. All Long Tube Headers will cause a CEL. I have a combination of Intake, Shorty Headers and Cat Back exhaust. It's been over 3000 miles and no CEL.

Doug Thorley shorty headers
Magnaflow mufflers and resonated x pipe Airaid v2 intake no cel As Scrming said felt the cai the most shorty's were next and axelback not really but put them on same time as old airaid v1 and engine still new so not a good judge of that. I think the crappy airaid v1 negated the gains/feel I did get from the exhaust though. All work well as a package and worth it to boost up the torque some, the sound and the fun factor |
