CAI Question
I was in OReilly's this morning and something caught my eye. They have a universal cold air tube and filter. I'm not at a place right now where I can spend $200 - $400 on a model specific unit so I was willing to wait till I am. I'm not even sure it will fit my Camaro or not but it is adjustable and I wanted to ask a few questions first. The tube is less that $40 and, allthough I know its not the best, the filter was $25. Then there is a $13 peice that fits in for the sensor. I was thinking I could use a k&n filter or something a little better. For this much difference in price I might could do it now for the chrome look and cool sound even if there isn't much HP gain. I know the heat sheild will be missing but that's something I could fab myself.
My questions are: Does anyone have any experience with this? Will something like this cause more problems than its worth with check engine lights and such? What do you think? Thanks for the input!

I have the AIRAID CAI for the V6 2010-11, I have a 2011, not sure if it's more compatible with the engine light or what but it was on for the first crank. After turning it off and back on, the engine light was off. The car doesn't start as easily but is much better than stock. I paid somewhere under $400 for it, installed it by hand which was very easy. If you want performance... CAI that is designed for your car, but if you just go with appearance then do what you want. It voids warranty and also if you are worried about engine lights, a "universal CAI" is probably the worst idea for your car.

I did the same thing for a vehicle I had a few years back and regretted it. It was a 2001 Saab 9-3 SE Vert and because it was a rare model there was not a decent Cold Air Intake available for it. Creating my own from cheap parts at the local auto store I ended up spending more money and time than it was worth performance and looks wise. I would suggest saving up ang getting one that was designed for your vehicle. The Camaro is a performance vehicle, and you already invested some decent money into owning one, so I would not skimp on the CAI as tempting as it may be to build your own. Can a DIY kit be done...sure, but I would not personally reccomend it. I am sure we have a lot of great customers that would vouch for our product on here that you could see pics of. Even if you went with one of our competitors systems I would still reccomend that over a DIY kit. Thats just my opinion. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

There's nothing wrong with pacing one's self when modding. We tend to get an itch and wanna scratch it! That adds up! Pace yourself, on a budget, and do some mods yourself to save the install dinero. Remember the 7 Deadly Sins..."ENVY"

Your company doesn't have an estimated HP or Lb-Ft gain?

you might be able to find a used blackwig intake for about the same price if you look around. but its not gonna get you much hp and isnt "chrome" but it is aftermarket lol you might be able to pick up a used airaid or k&n for around 200 im guessing

this is a good place to start, ebay also has some once in awhile. you can also look in the local area for people selling stuff.

Not sure if this was directed at me or not so I will answer anyways. Take a look at all the independent testing that Jannetty Racing did. Avg max hp was at 15. We took part in both the V6 and the V8 testing and came out as one of the top performers for both. Hope that helps!

It was directed at you, but great build then. You should advertise more, grow your name. If you are actually capable of creating Air Induction Systems with 15 more HP than stock, you should be on top level competition, and step to compete with K&N
