Question What If Chevy Did THIS.....

What if Chevy did this for the "Top Dog" Camaro for the upcoming releases, how would you feel about this?

The so called "HP" Camaro would be called....drum roll please....
IROC-Z, with all of it's supercharged glory.

And what if they kept the Z/28 as the model above the SS but below the IROC-Z like it did in the '80's era.

The IROC name is not licensed and the series is not longer being ran and that would give GM the possible air of opportunity to bring back a proven recognizable nameplate that I know a lot of us desired on the 3rd gen. cars which still stood for the ultimate Z from back in the day.

Just a thought, I know it's been beaten to death, sorry for feed the speculation but it's all I have until next weeks Chicago auto show preview.

Not feeling it. I prefer the Z28 name to IROC-Z.

...and there was no such thing as a thirdgen SS

Where to begin? Yes, the IROC Series is dead, went belly up a couple of years ago and all of it's assets were sold at auction. I believe Roger Penske bought some of their "rights" like an internet domain name and perhaps some other things. I'm not so sure that people universally identify IROC with Camaro only, I'm pretty sure that Chrysler built some IROC named cars for public sale when the Series was using Dodges. And Chevy and Dodge were not the only makes/models used in the IROC Series. SO while there was a time for IROC Camaros, I don't think that time is back again today.

This is just my personal opinion and not meant to offend anyone, but I think the IROC name should be left alone as it doesn't represent the best of the Camaro years and tradition. It honestly makes me think of the negative "mullet" stigma that the Camaro gained during these years. Plus, it sounds kind of cheesy IMO.

Again, just my opinion, but I think that name should be left alone. I'd prefer an all new nameplate, starting a new tradition, over that.

Yeah, I really did not want it to be a reminder of the mullet stereotype that some of these lame auto rag writers, who have no original thought of their own, seem to jump on the bandwagon of ripping the Camaro whenever they feel emasculated by the car's mere presence.

Having had a 1988 Iroc-Z, I am a bit biased, but I like the idea......don't really care what it is called though truthfully.........as long as it isn't something stupid......as long as it is built and is a beast...

BTW...I never had a mullet....I was in the military.....so it was a screamin eagle or high & tight......

I like we're still kicking this whole topic around

I don't know that I'd like IROC to be around before Z28, but I know that I appreciate that the more CAMAROs GM has to appeal to more people the better. I'd hate to make it as cookie cutter as the Mustang, but GM's gotta' sell cars, so we gotta' keep buyin' 'em

I vote "no", but I like we're still thinking about this

Send a message via AIM to Mr. Wyndham
I want to say the "IROC" name cannot be used for some legal reason or another.

I wish I can remember the details...but on top of that, Chevy had to pay for the rights to use that name for every car that wore those stickers...

I agree with the above...Ain't gonna happen. :(
