Window Tinting (Ottawa area)

Gday all,
My Camaro convertible should be arriving some time early spring and I will be having the windows tinted right away. Any one know of a really good window tinting shop in the Ottawa area?

Thanks

Dave

I have also used Shades on Colonnade...excellent (613-226-8471). They also installed my Camaro clear bra. With appointment, and arrive at opening time, tint can be done while waiting. They also tinted my 1998 Riviera.

I just called Langlois Sound on Mcarthur Ave. Eric quoted me $229. Now I have to decide which one to go with. I will search Google for positives/negatives on each.

Sorry for the late (er) reply. Suggest you go to both shops and see how the tint 'application' looks on an auto. Shades on Colonnade is a one man operation and he is a perfectionist. At Shades the window tint is installed to the edge of door windows (nice detail). He did my 1998 Buick Riviera about 4 years ago and tint application still perfect. He did my 2011 Camaro last Aug. one week after delivery, plus front clear bra. Let me tell you you really have to know what you are doing when installing a Camaro clear bra due to all the sharpe edges. I had a appointment, first slot in the morning, watched him tint and clear bra, was out in about about 2-1/2 hours. Shades has been in business for many years, a one man operation, and he has done his share of high-end autos.
I also paid $225 for the tint, but more interested in quality materials and quality workmanship. I was so impressed the the quality of workmanship at Shades after he did my Riviera, did not even consider shopping around when it came time to tint my 2011 Camaro.
Personally, I would rather have my work done by the owner of a company than a shop that brings in a pro. Doesn't mean one is better than another, I am just more comfortable with an experienced 'pro' business owner/installer working on my car. Plus, if you go to Shades, he has two wonderful dogs to keep you company and they seem to oversee their Dad's workmanship (LOL).

Abaucom21,
Thanks for you very indept info. Hopefully my comaro will arive at end Mar/early Apr and I will get it in for tinting ASAP. What percentage of tint did you have installed? Do you have a couple of pic's of it? I don't want to go really dark.

Dave

Hi Dave,
Sorry but do not have time to review the Boards each day. My 2011 Camaro has 35% side glass, 20% backglass. The car I traded for the Camaro had 20% all around and I found it a little too dark for night driving. Camaro backglass not that good for vision so that is why I used 20% (LOL), but use of correctly adjusted rearview mirrors is a must on Camaro's so for night time driving I prefer the 35% side glass tint. My 1998 Riviera is 35% sides and backglass. Remember, in Ontario, there is not a limit to percentage of window tint but the way the law is written, police must be able to clearly see into to car from the side windows. Needless to say, you can not tint the windshield so these photos are misleading as windshield looks tinted but are not, just light reflection. Because its a Camaro, just decided to play it safe with the 35% side glass tint. All this tint looks dark in the sunlight, less dark at night, and with 35% at night still good visability from the drivers seat. Hope this helps.

On another note, will be looking forward to seeing pictures of your convertible. What color and trim level? I do suggest you clear bra the front, it is expensive but happy I did mine first week after delivery. Because mine is white I only did the front bumper and did not extend clear bra onto leading edge of the hood. So far, driving during the winter (Riviera stored and never been driven during the winter), only have one very small paint chip on the Camaro right side door handle.
