Got my 2ss/rs in september need help!!!

ok still makin money just not as much as i'm used to....so i'm attempting to upgrade performance a little bit at at time.....so far i have a blacked out billet style grill........and a bolt on exhaust system......

Should i put on a chip or a cold air intake first? have heard that putting a cold air intake before you put a chip can be damaging in the long run any thoughts? help in this matter would be deeply appreciated

Never heard that. Many here have added a CAI and not had a tune.

from what i've heard -

adding exhaust system = no need for chip
adding cold air = no need for chip

adding exhaust system AND cold air = needs a chip. since you already have the exhaust and are adding the cold air as well you may want to look into a chip

I don't think you need a tune/chip if all you have is the CAI and exhaust. You will need a tune if you modify your catalytic converter setup at all because that'll likely throw a code. The exhaust is pretty non-restrictive stock, so adding an after market exhaust won't really change the engine performance characteristics, just the sound. Of course, I don't have an exhaust system added yet, but I'm sure many many people on here can attest that having a CAI+Exhaust doesn't throw any codes.

That being said, I'd avoid getting a tune if your budget is tight. Because if anything breaks in your drivetrain/engine, the dealer will see that you had a tune, and the warranty may be invalidated because of it. They technically have to prove that the tune broke whatever broke, but that's a fight that may not be worth it. I'd just get the CAI to start. Once you have enough cushion to pay for a 3k repair, then you can tune to your heart's delight!

As long as you are not putting longtube headers on, it should be good togo with no tune/chip.

If you only have a bolt on cat back and a CAI you do not need a tune, but a tune will give you more HP. also to think about is an exhaust and CAI will not void the warranty but once the chip is in then by by warranty. That is something to think about.

Where did the chip come from. You can't put a chip in them. You get a dyno tune, but you don't need a dyno tune with just the exhaust and CAI. If you get headers you will probably need one.
