Why black out license plate

Why do people black out their plate when posting a picture on this site? Don't hundreds of people see your license plate every day? It's not like they can steal your identity with your tag #.

What am I missing?

If your craft you can check DMV records to find out where people live. If someone wants to come find me I'm waiting with a large caliber gun and an oversized pooch who doesn't like hostiles.

some people are just THAT cautious i guess. i found it weird when i first joined there was a tampa thread on "who car is this". i guess they were just taking a picture of cars they saw in the tampa/brandon area and my car was on there, with a picture of the back of my car and tag showing. like TOMS1SS says. i got an artillery waiting on you if you want to find me lol

another way for whackos to do this would be to use someones IP address, certainly the moderators will be able to access this but maybe others too.

not saying the mods are a bunch of whackos mind! lol

Yep. I've had that issue with lesser cars and plates. One employee I fired for stealing cash tried to send his buddies after me after he found where I lived.

I always wondered the same thing when I'm looking at someones post with the plate blocked. Then you see another thread wanting to see your personal plates !

Better safe than sorry. After that stalking incident involving Brandotron, I learned my lesson but good.

I can go either way on this. Posting pics on a forum is a way to identify a vehicle in public, but not necessarily its owners. I don't see much harm in it, but I respect the discomfort some people have with throwing pics of their car all over the internet with their license plate in clear view.
