Unhappy Simple problem... need assistance.

I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a 2011 Rally Yellow 2LT/RS on May 28th.

[a little background]
Before the deal was finalized I requested that the dealership "badge" be removed from the rear of the vehicle. (I have no issues with a dealer license plate frame, but I can't accept stickers or something glued to a new car.)

The salesman agreed to remove it while I finalized the paperwork and completed the transaction. Everything seemed to go smoothly, I glanced at the back to verify that the badge was removed, then I was quickly corralled into the vehicle for the quick rundown of gauges, settings and features as well as the OnStar setup.. The salesman excused himself exited the vehicle because the dealership was closing for the evening. When all was complete I adjusted the mirrors and headed home with my new toy.

[the issue / question]
By the time I got home it was getting dark, so I couldn't quite tell if all of the glue was removed from where the badge was previously located.... the following morning I gave the car a good rinse and noticed that there was a small chip in the paint from where the badge was removed. I immediately called the dealership. The salesman said that he'd give me some touch-up paint when the parts department opened on Tuesday. I explained that I would NOT be using touch-up paint on my new car and that I've NEVER had successful results with it. He assured me that I'd never be able to tell that the chip was there and that it wouldn't peel, or flake off, etc. I asked if we could just use the warranty and get it painted properly, yet he adamantly continues to push the touch-up and refuse the repaint. He claims that anything other than touching up the paint would "compromise the integrity of the paint."

I've never had to deal with this before, and I'm really tired of being pressured by these damn dealerships. Can someone please give me some REAL advice? should I accept the touch-up or demand it be properly painted. (I have the rally stripe package also; would this be the reason he's pushing the touch-up rather than a repaint?)

Thanks.

Not an expert by any means, but to me this sounds like BS. Your dealer just didn't want to fix a mistake that they made. I'd contact GM. But thats just me.

Ask the body shop to repair it.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm on this one, if it were me I would be pissed that the chip ended up there on my new car due to the dealers mistake and I would want it repainted.

However, sometimes the cure is worse than the disease so to speak. Without seeing the "chip" and how bad it may be or deep ect I would do the following:

Be pissed and rightfully so but get the touch up paint with a clear coat pen. Assuming it is just a small nick I would touch it up and clear it using the pens. Then I would find a new dealer.

Also once it is fixed you may be able to cover it up with a sports badge if that is your thing. In Austin where I am from we put a longhorn badge on our cars for the University of Texas (UT) or maybe you could put the Honor badge on if that is your thing?

Just suggestions since I think having that dealer repair your issue would be an even bigger issue.

Cheers
K

Take it to the dealer and let them "repair" it however they deem fit. If you are not pleased with the repair at that point, ask for more to be done.

NO to this. Make an appointment and have THEM make the repair. Once you touch it yourself you own it and have no recourse.

I think I'll let HIM do the touch-up... that way I have NOTHING to do with the repair attempt. (Since I had nothing to do with chipping the paint to begin with.)

I think I'm on the same page as you... I'm afraid that if I accept the touch-up paint they'll consider it a closed case and I won't have a leg to stand on if the "repair" fails.

Regarding the size of the chip; it's small. If you take a straight pin and flip it around and look at the flat part... it's a little bigger than that, but it's deep... but not down to bare metal.

Will repaint / clear coating the trunk lid be worse than letting them use the touch-up? I'm thinking more long term... I just don't want the paint to start flaking and peeling 3 years from now and then have them laugh at me when I go back and ask them to fix it.

This is why I reccomended you ask the body shop to do the repair. They'll take a look and make they're own call on whether touch-up paint is the way to go or not. Let them decide.
Either way let them do the repair not you. That way the quality of the repair and any warranty issues fall on their shoulders not yours.

HDRDTD, I see your point.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback... I'll head over to the dealership tomorrow afternoon and let you know what happens.

When I bought my Carmaro they had to drive it down from Orlando. When I picked it up the sun was out and on a white car you dont see much. Two days later I noticed a knick in my front bumper from what looked like a rock. I couple of weeks later I was at the dealership and showed them the knick. I told them it was driving the car down from Orlando. The Manager brought me over to the body shop and said what can we do for him. He said leave it here for two days i'l' take care of it. Came back two days later, Perfect. Couldn't be more happy with my dealership.

DEMAND they repaint it!!! That is horsesh*t.

Get everyone involved Managers, GM Service.

Get pissed and demand what you want!!!

Most states have a 3 day back out clause on car purchases. Go see the general manager and ask that they either fix it properly, or suggest they back you out of the deal. I would explain that when they findmyou an exact match for the car, you will buy that one for the same terms.

Have the dealer repair it properly in their body shop or tell them you want your money back on the car. Do NOT use touch up paint. It will never look right if you do.
