Taking the HUD knob off

Has anyone taken off the knob to their HUD switch? Please the last picture in post 8 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160693.

I have gotten that far, but since the letters in the knob glow at night, I'm going to assume there is an LED under the knob somewhere. How do I remove the knob?

Has anyone done this? or have any recommendations? I can upload different pictues if needed when I get home tonight.

thanks.

Here is what i think, see the 3 plastic tab's on the back side? i think you need to somehow drill a small hole in them and then with a per of pliers squeeze them in, any way that is what i think, but its up to you.

I haven't drilled them out yet, still working on these, but if I do end up drilling them out, How will I get the knob to stay when I'm ready to reinstall it?

That should work, just like replacing the door panels... remove the melted ends and replace with small screws... (emphasize small)

Also, out of curiosity, why are you removing it?

I'm slowly (emphazing slowly..) changing the LEDs to green. Thanks for the tip, Road Rage.

Well. I used an exacto knife to take part of the plastic stuff off. Then it was just even with the board, but still didn't want to come out, so hubby ended up drilling it out.

It's been sent off to have the LEDs changed, so I'll have a few days to find some very small screws and perhaps small plastic washers so I can put it back on.
