AFM Question

I've noticed on my new 2011 SS A6 that while tooling around town 30-40 mph, the car seems to pull forward then coast, pull forward then coast, etc, but I am not accelerating or taking my foot off the gas. I don't think it's gearing up and down either, could this be the AFM system? Does anyone else notice such a thing?
Thanks

Yep. But notice it at other speeds also. It will seem as it is lugging and them start running smoothly again, as it switches back to 8 cycl mode.

Yes, that is the AFM system that you are experiencing.

It may be AFM kicking in and out, but it also may be the cam going from a retarded intake centerline (sometimes 25 degrees retarded) to fully advanced. The engine has more cylinder pressure with the cam in the fully advanced position and will be peppier. The retarded cam position is where you pick up fuel economy, but the engine is lazier. In a nutshell, you could be feeling the cam phasing.

It's just the retarded AFM system at its best
