I've been using remote starts faithfully for over 10 years now though it's aftermarket. NEVER had an issue. I can tell you this, when it's cold and you have a car thats outside the garage, no ice scraping. When it's hot and your leaving the store by the time you to your car it's blowing nice cold air in your face. Hell for aftermarket on REALLY cold days you can set it to autostart every few hours on it's own and adjust the timer for 12 to 24 minutes. The feature I'm excited about is your heated seats working with it. It's a new function i've never had that will be too late to use but will DEFINITELY get use.

Bah! I say.
An Edmontonian complaining about cold weather. Ask a Saskabusher or someone from Winterpeg about cold. You guys in Edmonton at least get an occasional chinook. We had the 'priviledge' of breaking a cold record a few days ago (March 11th) at a balmy -29 celcius, -41 with the windchill. (For you Americans our -40's end up being the same) That's why its not a big deal that my Camaro order hasn't been pulled yet. I didn't order a block heater so it wont be going anywhere anyways. |

Okay, question...
You hit the button on the key fob and your lovely camaro roars to life... When you get in, do you put your key in the ignition and turn it to on, or.. does it switch to on when you hit the button, and you just slide your key in, or... do you not even bother with the key once you get in? (But doesnt the key need to be in to switch to drive?) Thanks.

You need to put the key in for a number of reasons: first to turn on all the accessory operations, and also to unlock the steering wheel (when you hit the remote start the steering wheel stays locked in position). |

Yeah I have factory remote on my G5 and nothing happens when you press the brake. (I even went outside and tried cause you had me wondering). Camaro could be different I guess, but I doubt it

lol. So the radio doesnt come on when you remote start (if it was on, obviously)? And what about the AC? Isnt that an accessory, and didnt he just say that you have to put the key in to turn all that on?

Remote start on the Yuke is durable and my wife uses it at least 3 times a day when the weather calls for it. The one thing that's weird about it though is when you put the key in and turn it to ACC, it will swithc the heater to LOW and it makes me think the truck has just died. It doesn't take long to get used to it, it just sounds like things shut down, when the engine is really purrrring like a kitten. BOOYAH!

The A/C, heat, and heated seats will come on at the temp and blower settings you preset. Other non essential accessories will not operate untill you have the key in acc mode. |

AC/heat turns on when the car starts. However the electronics (radio, interior lights) won't be on till you flip the key to run. The headlights will come on though.

![]() What he says. And other than that it won't hurt your starter any more using the remote than if you get in and use the key. The ONLY problem I have ever had with my factory GM remote on my 07 G5 was I once had a sensor problem (Unrelated to remote start) that made my engine light come on. The remote start didn't work when the engine light was on. The mechanic told me (and it sounds pretty logical) that the remote start won't work when you have an engine light in case something catastrophic is wrong with your engine, so that you have to try and manually start it and can hear/see/smell that something is wrong with your baby. |
