Not Your Average V6 to V8 thread
It looks like I'm in line for a pay increase so I began thinking about upgrading to a V8. Now I love my V6 but after test driving an SS and Challenger R/T I'm sold on making the move. I previously avoided even test driving those models because I knew I would want make a move. Sounds typical right? No unfortunately the main reason why I am even considering getting rid of my car is because of all the extra BS that comes with have a synergy green camaro. I love the color! And I've made the mods I wanted to really make it my own but in my area when people see a green camaro in their rearview it seems to brings out a little extra douchebag in them. Now we all experience driving behaviors we don't like, but just 2X more when I'm in my camaro. So anyway I have been out car shopping for the best deals on a new SS or R/T. Right now it appears I can get a great deal on an R/T like $5-7K off sticker price and they will give me what I owe for my trade in, where 2 chevy dealerships offered me about $1k less than I owe. Here is a pic of my car and of one of the Challengers I am considering. Note: I will most likely get a white one if I do get the R/T. I test drove a 11' SS that was has been on the lot for a year now can anybody who has driven a 12' SS tell me if there are any significant performance changes that would warrant me taking a test drive and potentially spending a few $K extra on a 2012? I'm not really picky about options, would be buying a 1SS if that helps. Thanks

I think you should just test drive the 2012 model - then sleep on it. The better choice for you will stick out.

They really didnt change much performance wise on the '12 ss but they did a lil on the v6. I just upgraded to a '11 v8 from a '11 v6 a week ago. I didnt like the interior changes to the '12's so I got a brand new 2011. Only had 17 miles on her. If u like the changes to the 12 then go for it but I wasnt impressed. Good luck w ur decision. Challengers r nice but they arent a camaro
and I dont think its the green thats the prob, I think people r just jealous of the camaro period.

If I jumped ship for MOPAR, it would have to be the SRT8.

Lol I'm a young guy money is the main issue as far as brand new srt8's go. Plus to be honest for the money I could just buy a corvette and blow the doors off a challenger.

Well, at least if you but the R/T you won't have to worry about getting used to the extra power...
I will say I love the look of the Challenger and if I was in the market for a gas guzzlin V8 daily driver, the Challenger would be it, hands down. But, since I have a gas sippin Civic as a DD and wanted a car with some performance, I got the SS. The Challenger is hands down more refined, more comfortable, more attention to detail inside... did I mention more expensive and WHOA is a big girl. I am not taking aything away from our Mopar counterpart but the performance in the R/T just isnt there. You need the SRT for that and that about breaks the bank. |

I understand. When I was car shopping I debated between the challenger r/t, camaro and mustang. At the end of the day the camaro won hands down for me. More bang for ur buck, IMO.

Same here when I was getting rid of the v6 I test drove the new 5.0, a 370z, and a challanger. When it came down to it the Camaro just has more for the money you will pay. for example the brembo package on the 5.0 doesnt even have brembo's on all four brakes it is only the front 2 if I recall correctly.

Congrats on being able to upgrade! Your v6 is very nice btw and i would opt for the 2012 2ss/Rs if you can. The Challengers are very sexy but lacks performance compared to the SS and the 5.0s rear is just way to ugly. 2012 SS FTW!

Bone stock "as they were delivered from the dealer" Challengers are not low 13 second cars. Not by a long shot. Try again ...
