compass not displaying
OK, so this is a first for me and based on my quick search, may be a forum first too...
So I was driving along and I noticed that the compass was not displaying anything in the DIC or in the HUD... the DIC displayed "--" and the HUD displayed nothing where the compass was supposed to be. This did not correct itself for the entire 30 min drive I was in the car. If it's not working after work I'll take the car into the dealer, but my curiosity is getting the best of me and I'd like to know what happened...

I had this same problem a few months ago. Disappered for one drive but came back the next and havent had a problem since.

It was working on the way back from work yesterday and the way to work today... Well at least it's not permanently broken!

cab2g, has this become a recurring issue for the vehicle or has it just been the two times you noted above? Hopefully this is something simple and doesn't return for you. Thanks for your explanation and your time.

Mine did this today. First it said CAL. After I drove it a while the compass worked. Then when I turned it off and started it again I got the 3 dashes. Do I need to take it to a dealer?

Sometimes it just wont work....turn the car off and let it sit a min try again.

Mine quit working completely. Dealership replaced the onstar computer. works fine now.
