400 hp

Just a quick question. What mods can I do to get my car up to 400hp on the fly wheel? I don't know what that translates to rear wheel. I have a pair of bbk l/t headers. And looking into a vararam cai. I'll get a tune if necessary. I'm thinking about a throttle body to. And a cat back corsa exhuast. If there is anything else u think I need please let me know.I plan on paying for everything as soon as the winter is over.

Unfortunately unless you go with a turbo charger, supercharger or nitrous, you are not going to get to the 400 HP with N/A. Not yet anyway. With a CAI, headers, tune, ported throttle body and E85 fuel some are just now seeing 300 HP at the wheels. Now there is a ported intake manifold in the works from Tracy (SC2150) along with intake manifold insulators from Tracy and another supplier. Heads and cams are being worked out now, but will be on the expensive side, (as much as $1500. for the 4 cams).

Hey RT hey is asking for 400hp to the crank, not the wheels. 400hp to the crank is about 340rwhp for a M6 and about 325rwhp for the A6. With all the parts RT has pointed out will get you up there but maybe alil short but not by much. BeMoreCam can help alot with this thread! I see him as the LLT N/A King lol!

Cai, Lt's, Tune, Ported TB, IM, Insulator, will maybe get 400. It's hard to ask for hp at the crank. Go to the dyno sticky to see the hp to mod stats and see how much you need for 350 to the wheels without fi or a whole ported motor

Depends on how much one think we lose in drivetrain before we can calculate the rwhp. Some say 15% and some say even 20%. Look at the stock dyno numbers posted, the drivetrain loss so far are from 17% to 29%! but we know 29% is not accurate by far, and probably anything from 21%-29% is not accurate. You can look at those dyno numbers and see that dyno is not something you use to calculate your final hp but a tool to measure from mod to mod. I can almost guarantee that me, usa1, hapisok or anyone on e85 can get on a dyno that "supposedly" read hp correctly(260-270rwhp manual, 250-260rwhp auto)and come out showing 300+rwhp on the dyno. Hapisok pulled 283rwhp on a eddie current dyno that are known to supposedly read so lower than a dynojet. On a dynojet I use which is 248x I pulled 284rwhp on e85. My 248x is also a notoriously low reading dynojet.

For the op's question.. YES.. 400hp at the crank is very doable these days for our LLT but probably not if you are one of those folks who believe we only lose 15% in drivetrain loss. 15% drivetrain loss will put us at 340rwhp from 400 crank. I think we can go closer to 315-325rwhp max at this point with e85 and every bolt on known to LLT. Still darn impressive if you ask me. We are finding ways to get more hp out of these cars every single day though. Stay tuned!

Manuals seem to lose somewhere around 15 - 16% while the autos seems to be in the 20- 21% range.

I think getting 400 crank, or at least within 10 - 15 HP of that is very doable even in NA form, but you have to pull out all the stops.

exhaust, long tube headers, tune, CAI, RX ported TB, Ported intake manifold, manifold insulators, and ported heads would likely get you into the 360 to 380 crank HP range. Do all of this on an E85 tune and then you might reach the 400HP mark.

Nobody has done cams yet, but that would be another one that if thrown into the above mix should get you very close or at the 400 mark.

I know he was asking at the crank. I never said otherwise.....

Nobody as far as I know has shown enough HP at the wheels to claim 400 at the crank. I know we are really close knocking on the door, but close doesn't count in this game.

agreed... on a typical dynojet I think you are looking at 320ish RWHP to be at 400 HP at the crank.

Cams alone on a 6cy engine will usually net around 20-30rwhp, and probably a little more as you go bigger. Add head/cam combo and with a good tune and 60+rwhp should be very doable and again, more as you go bigger on cams. If you look at the older v6 alloytec engines, the aussies are pulling in some serious power with just cams and cpr manifold. Only thing we can hope for is that the head/cam combo will work well with our direct injection. Look at the LS engines.. 100+ with head/cam combo all day! I only wish it was the same with our LLT. We should know more accurately once mace get some dyno numbers together soon

BUT... With the LLT already having variable valve timing how much gain would you expect with new cams? With the VVT are the stock cams less of a compromise?

It look like we would want to keep the vvt on our LLT the last time I talk to Steve at mace. So no vvt delete. We will just have to wait until mace dyno the cams within the next few weeks and we all will know for sure.

When Tracy was talking about doing his he told me he was making a VVT delete version first. Then the one with! But the Cam's are looking bad coming from him. He is in deep with all the other parts and R&D already. Plus all the builds he has going on at one time.
