The thing is that with technology, the V8 keeps getting better and more efficient. That being said .. technology can also do some pretty good things now with smaller engines and F/I !! ....should be interesting for the enthusist either way !

That's true. I wasn't trying to make a statement, just wanted to post the article. But it does make a point that the SS might be more valuable in the future.

The SS already gets better mileage than a bunch of V6's and 4 bangers while making 100 or more hp. And the new generation of engines will be even better.

This is true, but- it does seem that the powers arrayed against V8s and fossil fuels in general have more sway nationally than they ever have before. And there are some working alternatives for the green folks to rally behind. And GM is in a position where some very anti-fossil fuels folks are going to have a large say in GM's future product lines. You also have very prominent senators AND the CEO of Ford saying that gas prices are too low right now. If it wasn't for the economy, you'd be seeing bills right now to set a floor via taxation for gas at $3.50 to $4.00.

I don't think it's the end per se, but I think they are going to be rarer and more of a luxury.

Indeed. I think the true arguement is that the V10's and V12's are on the out. and probably not even them. Most likely we'll be seeing these engines until electric cars that do 0-60 in 4.5 sec are 30K. Could be a while.

GM has more invested than anybody in various alternative fuels

largest flex fuel fleet, and money invested in cellulose ethanol development
range extended electric cars
hydrogen fuel cell test program

I concure. Technology and innovation do seem to walk hand in hand. Viva la Chevrolet.
