No lift shift ??
I was curious to know if anybody had any details regarding the "no lift shift." I'm assuming it has to be in PTM mode 5, but does it specifically have to be in drag mode to use it?

Yeah I def. do NOT understand what no lift shift means. When you push in the clutch it should just rev right?

From what I gathered, when you push the clutch in with the throttle fully depressed, it will keep the engine from bouncing off the rev limiter like it would if you WOT shift.

It was available in the Kappa cars with the GM tune. Basically after launch, you just keep it matted while shifting normally at redline.

You just keep WOT while you push in the clutch and shift gears and le the clutch back out. It's basically a cheat for powershifting without too much worry of spitting gears out of the tranny or rear pumkin. Just be careful not to go the wrong direction... I'm sure it can't prevent mechanical over-rev'ing...

All the magazine reviews I have read describe this function while referring to PTM Mode 5 (more specifically LAUNCH CONTROL), so I'm going to say "YES" it's only available when using LAUNCH CONTROL via PTM Mode 5

In the Cobalt SS, no lift shift available at anytime, you just do it. It helps out a lot for a small turbo charged car where you needed to stay in the boost. Just keep your foot planted and shift thru the gears.
I have not seen anything about no-lift shift in GM press release yet: http://media.gm.com/content/media/us...909_camaro_zl1 What about rev matching in the automatic? The G8 had it I thought.

yea I had it in my Turbo Cobalt. It was cool because it held the boost in the recirc valve so when you slammed it into the next gear you were in full boost. All the ricers bought blow-off valves for those cars so you'd have to build boost back up after a shift(Turbo Lag). I too have not heard of NLS in the Zl1. Don't think you would need it because blowers don't really have lag in between shifts.

I think its simply power-shifting but with the car actually programmed to do it

No lift shift been around for ever. Its just a computer program to stop the ignition when you shift. That way you can keep it at full throttle during a shift. They have piggy back systems for the SS that can do the samething. Nothing new here.

So at the risk of sounding stupid, when performing no-lift shifting, do you use the clutch or does the ignition cutout provide enough reduction of load to permit the synchros to mesh? Is it the movement of the shift lever that triggers the ECU or the clutch movement?
I would imagine at least a slight clutch pressure is still needed but maybe not all the way to the floor? |
