The paint job is not even close to $15,000... Gimme a break.. If you order the camaro in white, then all you need to do is buy the base coat and the clear. The paint is around $70.00qt so figure how many quarts you need and then the cost of the labor. It will not be $15,000... The expensive part will be the three coats of pearl and then the clear on top.. However figure the whole thing would be no more than $5,000 for the entire paint job and that is including labor.

Here is the information we have been waiting for! If you haven't already seen it, pickup the November 2006 issue of HOT ROD magazine. There is a great story (with pictures) of Bumblebee in the making at Saleen in Troy, Michigan.
According to the story, there were two versions of Bumblebee built for filming. The first one was completed in 30 days and both done in less than 45 days. Fabrication was done at Saleen's 280,000 square foot facility in Troy, Michigan. Steve Minn, vehicle coordinator for the film, recommended Saleen because they had built the Cobras used in xXx.
GM looked to their inventory and found the current GTO was the closest to the concept Camaro in size. With data and some sections and wheelbase drawings from GM, Saleen began their fabrication. The two Pontiac GTOs came from GM's R&D fleet and Joe Miesak (Saleen) went to work.
The fiberglass bodies were cast using the same molds GM used to build the two concept cars.
The interior looks much like the concept Camaro because the dashboard shell covers the original GTO instrumentation and the seats and interior handles came directly from the GTO as well.
GM had a say in the paint work. Supplied by Valspar Automotive finishes, code PBC30 -- Sunrise Yellow, Bumblebees paint looks great!
They altered the original stripes planned by Saleen to more closely resemble the Rally stripes from the 1969 Camaro.

It's actually fairly expansive. I figured up the cost on here a few months ago and paint and labor came up just a little over $14,000.

you would need approximately 3 quarts of paint to do one layer on a midsize car

No way $5000.....Labor for a reputable shop will be over $5000. If you spend less you will get a shit job for sure!!!!! Dont price shop and destroy your car!

I was quoted $5,000 for the whole job at a very good shop. However that was if I could wait until white was available. It does become more expensive the more layers of pearl you use and if you had to repaint the car white. It would be about two to three grand more.

Love the posts, thanks. Here is some info that I came across.

I asked Seleen about their involvement and could they verify the paint color. Here is their response....

Unfortunately, the paint color is pripoitory to Hasbro Brand. Although I
can tell you that the paint color is one of BASF.

So I go to BASF site and here is their response.....

I have found out that the Yellow used on the Transformers Bumble Bee is an exclusive color & the formula will not be made public.

I think that the Valspar Sunrise will do nicely.

On the transformers movie "extras", they said it cost them $75,000 to get that paint color. It had so many layers and coats to achieve that color.

Bumblebee is painted "Sunrise" Shimirin -- by Valspar.

You can't paint this car for $5,000 and do it correctly -- to do it correctly, you would have to remove most of the powertrain -- remove the doors and hood and trunk -- and paint it completely - that will cost you substantially more than $5,000 --
