Lifters are what I hear. Bearings would be a deep knocking sound.... What kind of oil pressure do you have?

did you check your oil level? oil pumps will make a clicking noise when there is not enough oil.

I seem to have enough oil but as I start the car when its cold I have a pressure a little under 60 psi. As the car starts to warm up the pressure begins to drop somewhere between 20 and 40. Also if I drive the car for a while the pressure continues to drop to around 15. the pressure goes up when im on the throttle. Also the knocking or ticking noise that I hear coming from the motor is not constant. Sometimes when I start the car it's fine doesn't knock or tick, but the oil pressure still drops.

Yep im convinced it's the lifters, I might have a stuck one. Also I think my o ring for my oil pump is bad. There is leaking on the top of the manifold. So my question is where is the oil pump located on the 3.8?

oil pump is on the bottom of the motor, you have to remove the oil pan to get to it.

so the new plan is to try switching to syntetic oil at a higher viscosity and put some marvel mystery oil in it to see if I will get my oil pressure back and if it lubricates the lifters..

Figured out the issue... I have a manifold gasket leak which is causing the oil to react with the antifreeze and create sludge.. Also the water is making the oil loose its viscosity causing the lifters to act funny.. Good thing I found the issue before I spun a bearing. Now me and the mad scientist have to take apart the manifold to replace the gasket and flush the motor... Anyone knows a easier way to do this?

3800 intake manifold gasket replacement is just a fact of life. Otherwise, they're bulletproof from what I have understood. Best of luck!
