Sport Mode tranny tuning
Howdy, I just had my A6 2SS tuned after full bolt-ons were installed and the shift band in Sport Mode is taking some getting use to. Its shifting out of 1st and 2nd gears around 5500rpm and is definitely not suitable for casual driving. I don't really have a problem with it since it is Sport Mode and I use Drive for normal driving, but can someone tell me if this is a normal tune for Sport Mode? It seems like the way this is tuned is meant for drag racing.

U NEED Ted tuned my car, and my S mode is nothing like that at all... S mode is just that a little sport compared to to Drive. shifts firmer and I can drive my car in eather D or S. it shifts out just fine. your car should not be doing that....

You can set it any way you want. The tuner should of asked you what you would like.

are you saying your 1st and 2nd gear shift releases at 5500 RPM under 50% throttle in light traffic driving ?
your tuner would have to raised your shift points at part throttle about 20 additional MPHs for that to happen. I raise my shift points 2-3 MPH at < 50% part throttle to put it in perspective. Bring it back and tell them your have a issue |

I drive my car in "S" mode all the time. It depends how aggressive you are on the gas. If I go from a stoplight and just leisurely accelerate, it will shift fairly low in the RPMs. However, if I give it a lot of gas or go WOT, it will shift around redline

I'll talk to them tomorrow and stick to the taps and Drive for now, which function fine. The shops been helpful and Im sure wont have a problem making it right. |

There are 3 different tables that dictate "shift patterns", one of which is how the car shifts in Sport mode.
This is what a tuner sees on a stock tune in HP Tuners: The numbers in the table are the speed in MPH when the shift occurs. Just thought I'd post this so you could see what stock is, and see what exactly is going on from the tuner's point of view too. |

Your transmission should shift at a fairly low rpm under light acceleration. As you increase your acceleration, your shift points will move up the tach. Then at WOT, your shifts will be up near redline. |
