Help w/ new gear & tune. Major Problem

I posted over a week ago in reference to a shop installing my new 3.91 ring and pinion. In short, after 3 and 1/2 weeks he calls me to come pick up my car and when I did all of the traction control, a.b.s, and brake lights were activated and will not go out. Also, the dash displayes " service stabilatrak." Furthermore, the car is pulling a bunch of timing when the rpm's are on their way up. Today, I took my car to the dealership and they couldn't read anything on their tech 2 because of the prior tunes, although they did try a few things for me. they were able to pull 6 or 7 codes (c and u ) I believe, and we are going to look at them. Also, we reinstalled the original dyno-tune from last year and still the dummy lights are all activated and won't go away and the car is still pulling timing. Anyway, the dealer thought that due to the gear change the front wheels aren't matching the back wheels, etc???? I want to know if anyone who has done a gear change has experienced anything like this and what they may have done to correct this issue...... I need some help please.

Are you low on blinker fluid? Haha just joshin', anyway do a search on the forum I believe someone had this same exact problem a while back and it ended up being a wheel sensor or something.

The tune has to be changed for the new gears.

not exactly. You don't change the tune. You need to tune the speedometer

Slowhawk and stieger, Both the guy that installed the gears and now the guy that is currently working on this stated that they already changed for the speedometer, etc... so that doesn't seem to be fixing the problem???

Do you mean that you specifically tune the speedo?

And why is the car losing a bunch of timing over 4500 rpm's?

2011, I hope that's all this is... a wheel sensor is only $15 bucks and would be a easy fix.

No, just adjust the speedo for the gear change. It's in the computer. It takes literally seconds to do.

No tune is required with gears other than to adjust the speedo.

I'm sorry to tell you, your tuner is an idiot. Find a new one.

You could have a bad wheel speed sensor, a false knock, a bad knock sensor... Lots of things. You need to get that to a better shop.

IPS in Columbus or CincySpeed in Cincinnati are the only two I'd trust near you. I deal with CincySpeed and have had great luck.

Maybe give them a call at the shop. They've installed plenty of gears with no issues like you're having.

Fund then on Facebook is the easiest.

thanks IROCanSS, I will let the guy who is looking into this know, he too is searching for answers tonight. But in your opinoin is this also causing the timing pull and all of the stabilitrak issues???? ( gotta love baby duty)

I think you have two issues here.

1. Likely a wheels speed sensor causing the lights. Easy fix. Frequently happens when removing them. No biggie. I would not fault them for that, only if they refuse to fix it.

2. A tuning issue. Not related to the stabilitrac lights. That's why when you dumped the old tube, it didn't clear the lights. Now, why is it pulling timing? Like is said, a knock sensor could be bad and calling pulling timing. You could have had some bad fuel. You could have a rattle that the sensor is calling a knock. Could be a lot of other things too. I'll admit, I'm not real up on tuning. The guy at CincySpeed who tunes my car, Tracey, is a genius with LS motors. I'd investigate and see if it's false calling a knock... or actually knocking (let's hope not) and go from there. It may not be that at all but it's something to check.

U guys know that by slowhawk saying the tune he meant the speedometer section right? Is this an auto or manual. An auto car would require a Retune to many shift and tcc tables.

I should write it out better next time.. LOL

Yes, speedo. There are certain table's you have to change and some look like they should be changed but don't, because it will cause the problem your having. More than likely the car see's different speeds front to rear.
