brand new camaro driver

Hey guys just bought a used/ new 2700 miles 2011 camaro six speed. When I test drove it I had been a way from manual cars for about 5 years so it wasn't unusual that it was a little different but i wanted it so I got it and will never regret it...still it drives alot different then most cars probably because of the hydraulic clutch I suspect, is this correct. I just want any tips and pointers on Good shifting techniques as far as starting at first and so on.....because a couple times i got done driving when I stalled it from a stop going into first I smelled a funny smell like brakes which I think I was probably burning the clutch a little, is that horrible??? Any mechanical info how everything works would be a help, also notice the friction point is really high up which im not used to can or should I adjust it? Do you have to put it in competition mode to speed shift?
