I've put this up before, but I'll add it here again. I love the song, but I have no idea who did it nor even what it's called. I've yet to see the movie too. I kept waiting for it to come to the theater, but it never did....

I heard it wasn't that great of a movie, but I still want to see it. Even if it's just for the action scenes.

Not to be overly biased, but Naval Aviation is what aviation is all about. There is just something special about landing a fighter jet on a ship in the middle of the night out at sea. The embedded video is actual footage and pictures of our squadron and what we accomplished when I was stationed at VFA-201 from 1999-2003. The footage of bombs dropping is actual footage from our aircraft.
We had approx 100 drilling reservists in the squadron. I was not a reservist, I was active duty. Our country called on the Naval Reserve in a time of need to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. 2002 and into mid 2003 is when the F-14 Tomcat's were being phased out and those squadrons were transitioning over to the F/A-18 Super Hornet at a rapid pace. A Tomcat squadron that was attached to CVW-8 was behind schedule on their transition and that is how we got called upon. During our work up cruise in the Puerto Rico training area we were not thought of very highly coming into the regular Navy world because we were a "reserve" squadron. What CVW-8 failed to realize is that the reserve Navy actually has some of the most elite and highest houred pilots in all of Naval Aviation. We dominated the bombing workups in Fallon NV, by the end of the carrier workups the regular Navy squadrons were coming to us for assistance and guidance and during the Med cruise of 2003 we held all of the highest achievements a squadron could hold during a cruise. We showed the regular Navy how it was supposed to be done. Our lowest ranked pilot by the end of the Med cruise was a Lieutenant Commander. That cruise on the Theodore Roosevelt was an historic event that went down in the Navy and the US Gov't history books because of what the ship accomplished and what we accomplished as a reserve squadron. Even though it has been nine years since we accomplished everything that we did, we are still talked about to this day. If the name VFA-201 is brought up around other seasoned pilots they know about us and what we accomplished. At the 16:42 mark you can see my ugly mug when I re-enlisted while we were at sea.
