V6 LLT frequent High Idle (rich) mode.

My V6 seems to always go into hi idle cold start mode in stop and go driving around town. I just stop somewhere for 20 min or so, get in the car and it goes to high idle with rich smelling exhaust.
Coolant temp has to be at lease 150 deg. (first line)and it still does this.
Question: Are the rest or you guys seeing this on the V6? Can it be tuned out?

Maybe bad sensor? I know the scan tool ambient temp always read lower than the actual outside temp. like 12 deg.
Here is a pic of where my temp gauge will be when it goes into high idle.
Disregard the Cel its not on.

Really, wonder if its something they re-programmed after my misfire re-flash at the dealer.

I think so. If you got the TSB reflash than I'm sure they raised the idle. Choke mode is basically called cat warm up mode, and it only happen during cold start or when the preset engine temperature is below xx, sorry can't remember exactly at what engine temperature choke mode happens. Normal temperature idle should be the same tho..

So I need to find out what that pre set temp range is and find out if my engine is withing the start up parameters.
Or is some sensor out of range tricking it into cold start mode.
So could the cat warm up mode, preset engine temp be changed?
I don't know how flooding the cats with fuel when the engine is warm helps anything.

if you are seeing higher idle than normal during normal temp operation than it could be other things that might be at fault. That has nothing to do with dealer reflash or cat warm up mode. My understanding is that the reflash only adjust the cold start idle (cat warm up mode). When the dealer first did the reflash did you notice this same high idle that you are noticing now? If not than I say take it in for service. Things such as a vacuum leak can cause for your idle to fluctuate or change among many other things. The cat warm up mode is only for a brief period during cold start only to get your cats up to active temp fast for emission purpose. It does not hurt your cats at all.

It did do the high idle after the re-flash but I paid no attention to it cause it was winter out.
Just confirmed today with the digital engine temp readout, the first line on the
dash gauge is about 140 to 145 degrees. That is when after it is parked it goes back into the cold start mode.
If no one else is seeing this in stop & go driving maybe I do have a problem.
Could be why my city mileage went down to 15 MPG this winter.

I say take her in if you still have warranty. Your idle should not be higher than normal other than cold start or when cat warm up mode is active. I don't know how many miles you currently have but dirty maf and throttle body will cause for your idle to change. Another reason could be carbon build up behind the valves especially. Our direct injection does not spray fuel onto the intake manifold so there's really nothing that can clean out the back of the valves. This has been somewhat of an issue with direct injected engines and there's even a TSB for top engine cleaning with GM's top engine cleaner. Top tier fuel and catch can somewhat prevent this but if you have quite bit of miles than it might not be a bad idea to do some cleaning. I say clean your maf, tb, injectors and fuel system, valves, and see if you still have high idle during normal temp.

Car runs sweet and gets great highway mileage. Come to think of it, its always done this since new.
Are you guys saying our V6 never goes into high idle mode on stop and go driving?
Mine did this 5 times this afternoon and it is 60 deg. out.

No A/C on never use it.
Maybe I'll post in the warranty section and see additional comments.
