air/fuel ratio

Anyone know what the stock tune for a SS m6 commands for an air/fuel ratio during WOT? I'm looking at the PE table for mine and it appears to be commanding mid to high 11s which doesn't seem right for NA. Seems pretty rich. I thought you want to be around 12.5:1 at WOT for the most power. Who has dynoed a stock SS and what air/fuel ratio did you record? Thanks.

I'd be real interested in this, too. When they tuned mine after installing the headers and cam they kept adjusting the AFR to make it richer until they got it between 12.5 and 12.0 on the dyno. It's 12.0 from 4500 up.

Stock tunes are always on the rich/conservative side to protect the motor.

If the stock tune is so rich, then it would seem there is more to gain in getting a tune then a few horsepower.

The stock tune commands from about 11.0 to 11.7, depending on RPM. Richer in general down low, and leaning out past torque peak.

That's the AFR commanded by the PE multiplier. Commanded AFR does not always track with actual AFR.

With the stock tune and stock car with no modifications it should though, right? If not, wouldn't the MAF transfer table be out of calibration then?

Even on a bone stock vehicle, build tolerances and sensor variances pretty much guarantee that commanded AFR will not equal actual AFR. Which is why the stock tune trends to be conservative in most areas.

here's a HP tuners screen shot of a stock 2011 camaro before a tune. at the bottom left is the command AFR and the actual. also look at the 3.5 degrees of knock. 348 delivered torque

Huh, wonder why the stock tune had knock with it running as rich as it was. Looks like after tuning it's running leaner with more timing and no knock.

you can get knock from being to rich or from being to lean.

look at the first chart, forth section down, and follow the green line which is my indicator for AFR Error. It looks like a heart beat. The green line is all over the map if you follow the line. The stock tune carrys KR through the whole power band, and towards the end, picks up an additional 2 degrees of knock totalling 5.5 degrees.

after the my tune, its a nice flat consistant line. The AFR sampling is a moving target, but through the histogram, I can tell how much of a percentage the fueling is off from my commanded level, and correct it.
