New sound law?

So my mom came by my house tonight with my sister and we got on topic of my car and how loud it is.....well she said she saw on the news that the fort worth pd is testing the db readings on vehicles now and if they go over a number then u get fined. I have not honestly heard or seen this, if any one knows or has more info pass it on

Well, ive always wondered when someone would actually do this. I was pulled over many years ago by a cop because my stereo was too loud. However there is no "definitive" line as to what is considered too loud here in NJ so essentially it's up to the cops discretion as to whether or not they give you a ticket.

What about motorbikes? Until they shut them up, I'm not worrying about it.

There are way too many trucks, cars, bikes, work /fleet vehicles that would violate this which in terms would be impossible to control in a large city

Its not a state law, but any town/city can impose a "NOISE" or Sound Ordanence. So if someone is complaining about the "noice" you are making.....there ya go, that s one thing, but if they are just pulling people over and saying your car/bike/music is to loud, without a complaint, there has got to be a "limit" stated in the ordanence somewhere, and a way to TEST and determine the EXACT amount of sound your producing, and the way that test is admisnstered. Like some sort of sound meter, placed at some specific distance. So if this might be an issue in your area, I would suggest you find out the spacifics in your area/town/city and "bone up on them" and be educated to the law. If it ever happenes to you, hopefully there will be someone with you (witness), BE and REMAIN CALM AND COLLECTED, so that IF you believe you are bing unjustly cited, ensure both you and your witness observes everything, right it all down.....take your citition and go on your marry way, then find yourself represention.

They did pass the sound ordinance. But it must be measured from the person's property line and I think it must be sustained noise.

Here is a brief article http://fortworthtexas.gov/citynews/d....aspx?id=96992

This doesn't say anything about the sustained noise, except for animals.

Anyway, if you don't drive past while the cop is standing at your neighbor's house with his sound meter, I'm not sure how they would ticket this.

Sas, yes, your car may be a bit loud. Just say your equipment is defective.

There are a lot of places with sound ordinances. It has been that way for many years. Go over a certain decibel and you can be cited. Many are based on time of day also.
