exhaust mods besides fuse pull.
everywhere i go everyone is saying my '10 SS with muffler delete sounds way meaner than the ZL-1 even with the fuse pulled. i would have to agree. would muffler delete on this car be bad for it? it looks like it has gm performance mufflers just not chromed

Muffler Delete is not "bad" for your car, just a sound preferance is all.

when i say "bad" i mean harmful to performance due to changing back pressure on forced induction motor.

my .02 on this topic. no a muffler delete would not be bad but I think it would sound worse. if you do a muffer delete you basically hear the sound the catalytic convert puts out. IMO this sounds bad but to some people Loud is good and there is no bad as long as it is loud. I can almost always tell when a car has no mufflers but still has cats as the sound just sucks to me.
I do not like the factory NPP style exhaust as much as some others but the only other exhaust company out there that seems to make this style of exhaust is B&B if you want the ability to run dual mode and I don't think they have a kit for the Zl1 but have not looked. I like borla stinger the best if you have cats and regualr borlas if you ditch the cats. Corsa is the best system out there IMO for no drone with loud exhaust at WOT. They do sound crappy at idel though IMO I had the system on my Z06. if you leave the cats in place you will not really change the backpressure much becasue of the cats up near the manifoulds are providing backpressure. youtube is you best friend when it comes to exhaust as the sound is subjectives just becasue my favorite is bolra another person may hate. I get compliments everywhere I go in my Z06 on my stingers but they do drone at certian RPM. Even guys in other vest will ask me what I am running.

they all have a distinct sound so if something is lounder than stock and does not sound like a pratcular muffler it narrows it down to me. so what you are describing I would think was catted pipe right away. then again I think I have some form of autism when it comes to exhaust note. I have always wanted to like magnflow based on price but I have run them on two cars and hated them. yet some people just love them. who knows. I will also run different muffler based on whether I keed the cats on or not which some people think is retarded ha ha. like the corsa's I ran at fist on my Z06 just screamed at WOT had Zero drone but sounded like a tractor at idel so I switched it. I think most would have left that alone. ohh well it give me and the wife something to fight about so that is the upside.

Do you want it to sound louder all the time including a possible drone or would you rather have it loud at idle and when under strong accelleration but quite with no drone while cruising at highway speeds.
I think that's the major advantage (at least to me) between the ZL1's exhaust and a normal modded exhaust. |
