Road Racing / Autocross - IL

Hey yo,

I'm looking to get involved in road racing and autocrossing. I want to learn about what it takes to get registered/certified, locations to race at in the midwest/Great Lakes states, and hear people's stories and experiences.

Please share whatever information you may have.

Thanks.

Join the national auto sport association (NASA). They have track days all over the country and you get an instructor to race with in your car until your experienced to go alone. I did an event with them at autobahn country club in Joliet and had a great time.

I will be running at least a couple of track days next summer at blackhawk farms in south beloit il. Not to far from chicago. I plan to sponser a track day through the buisness I work for. Which can save the drivers a couple of bucks. I had planned for this last summer but work spooled out of control and I wasn't able to put it together. They have a great road course only miles from my house.

My wife and I sit on the porch and try to guess who what is racing sunday mornings.

Check this link out: http://scca-chicago.com/

I doubt there will be any dates for next year yet, but I know the guys at my local SCCA are all VERY welcoming to new members and willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are having fun and learning to race at the same time. After competing in two events this fall, I can't wait to get back out there next spring! The best advise I can give anybody(since I'm still a noob myself ) thinking about whether or not racing is something they want to do is just get out there and give it a try. I'd also suggest that if you've never raced before, try Solo(autocross) first. I think it would be a great way to get your feet wet in the world of racing and learn how to handle the car at slower speeds(typically below 65mph) before taking it out on an actual road course.

Very good information, thank you! I am going to sign-up here shortly. Another friend I talked to today coincidentally mentioned SCCA. This is exactly what I need.

I'm in the same boat. I want to break out next year and get into many events. My car should be set up for it to run pretty good. I don't really know how to find more about it and events.

If you're not on the Chicago forum, check in there. We have several people doing tracks days and such events. It's a great forum too with a lot of opportuninties to meet with other owners with like interest. Go here: www.chicago5thgen.com

Here is a link to the SCCA Great Lakes Division regional map: http://www.scca.com/about/?cid=44660&r=gl

Find which region, or regions, are closest to you then scroll down to their link. GO LIONS!

I know these guys at the Autobahn. You can get one-on-one instruction and that is the fastest way to get fast. http://www.teamstradale.com/
