Dual Mode Exhaust

I have tried to search this forum and other sources for this but have come up empty. I am looking for an explanation of when the dual mode exhaust on the ZL1 is open and closed.

I believe it is open at idle but then may close during cruise speeds until a certain rpm. Can somebody please shed some light on this?

It closes again after 1000 RPM, so it sounds good at idle. It opens up again around 3000 RPM depending on mode above 50% throttle and stays open. Above 1000 RPM if you have it open while crusing with a switch, fuse pull, or controller you can hear why GM set it up this way. The slight drone would be too much for some owners and would not be complient with EPA noise regulations.
