Bonemaro's build thread

This thread is going to be about my rebirth if you will for my 2010 RJT 1SS. If you don't know allready my camaro is dead in the water. As bad luck would have it something went wrong internally, but to what extent and how remains unknown. For now i am patiently shopping around looking for my next best move to get me back out there.

On or about May 30th i pulled into my driveway after a long night at work, and the info on the DIC said Low Oil Pressure turn off engine followed by loud clanking. I shut it off right away and called for a flatbed to have it towed for further review. Turns out the bearing's in the crankshaft in GM's word's were showing wear typically seen from high revving of the engine. I also had metal shavings in the oil pan. Having an aftermarket cam i knew allready that my warranty was void, and i'd be hard pressed to state anything contrary to my situation; whatever went wrong did, and it was going to be all on me.

Over the past two weeks i've been doing some homework deciding on what approach i would use to get my car back to life. First thought was a total rebuild. "x" amount of dollars to have the engine pulled, stripped, and looked over to see what i could still use, and what i couldn't. From there i thought about anything from a mini stroker to a long block 454. From the boards here i've talked to DanD, my friends at Livernois, and my buddies at Vector Motorsports bouncing one idea after another off them trying to nail down the best fit for me. Then it hit me... why not just get another LS3?

Currently i am carrying around the idea of getting a brand new zero miles LS3; the very same engine i had, but use a different approach than before. For now that's where i am at; square one, and the best thing about it that i didn't feel until yesterday?? This is actually going to be fun. I'm finally at peace with my 40K mile engine failing, and i am closing that door to open up anew.

Pic's to follow as we progress

Here are a few pic's of the LS3 6.2L crate engine i ordered from GM. It's pretty much bare bones as i'll be swapping a few bits and pieces over from my old one-

Thanks Pierre.

Another setback as i got word today from Paul @ Vector Motorsports that this is how my car was put back together; or not so much from the dealership.

***Found A/C Belt Missing***
***Found Multiple Bolts In Front Clip/Radiator Support Loose
or Not Tightened***
***Found Multiple Nicks On Front Clip and Fendors/Hood***

More to come in the next few days.

Memoirs of an oil starved engine

We got most of the engine tore down to inspect. Unfortunately we found your camshaft was wiped out and took some lifters as well. We have a new camshaft on the way!

Take a look at that block, and the internal damage. Big old rip there. Kids this is what it looks like when an oil pump fail's.

Its good to see your car coming back to life. This may be a lesson to me to not void my warranty too soon. Scary

Getting some break in miles done on the car, changing the oil, back up on the dyno, and back to David!
