2012 Camaro ZL1 actual weight and weight bias

Just had my 2012 ZL1 on our corner weight scales in preparation for some future mods and just thought I would share the data.

This was a 2012 ZL1, manual trans, no sunroof without driver and almost empty tank of gas. Forgeline wheels are 8lbs lighter each than stock base rims.

Stock Corner Weights:

RF: 1074lbs
LF: 1053lbs
RR: 938lbs
LR: 952lbs

Total weight 4020lbs

Diet perhaps?

Well we will be starting with unsprung weight, such as suspension parts, wheels etc before moving on to other items. The drivetrain really is the heaviest part of this car, rear end, engine/blower etc so there is not a whole lot one can do there.

I also want to keep it streetable, so even though I will be replacing the seats with lighter ones they will not be all out race seats.

Whatever we do, we will post actual weight savings here!

They initially said they did a lot weight savings I'm surprised it's heavier than my car. Stock with twin turbo 2ss 6sp no sunroof 3/4 tank of gas 3920

Really?

I weighed at Byron in Illinois a couple weekends ago

4075lbs. w/ Half tank, 175lbs driver and 30lbs cargo.

That puts the car at 3870lbs even with 1/2 tank of gas.

Well I am sure they did save weight on certain parts over the SS, but the overall package is still heavier. Figure in the much larger rear end, the whole blower assembly and the bigger brakes and there alone you have a couple hundred pounds.

Although I am starting to think that someone hid some lead weights somewhere inside the body panels...

Yeah.....driveline is heavier duty.....but 53/47 isn't bad for a front engine/trans car.

Are you gonna try to reduce? What do you attack?
Backseat is worthless.
Raceseats in the front would save some too.
But whats that? 100lbs?
Then what?
Carbon fiber hood and trunk lid.....
Aluminum lug nuts
It has aluminum rotor hats right?
Whats the radiator made out of?
Mufflers with all that actuator stuff?

You'd probably be doing real good if you could find 300lbs.
