45th Aftermarket Sunroof

Hey guys,

So I am really thinking about getting an aftermarket sunroof put in my 45th Anniversary SS. Does anyone have any experience on what one should cost to be installed? Does anyone have pics of their aftermarket sunroof they would be willing to share? I heard that it looks weird with the reverse mohawk styling.

All opinions are appreciated!

I'd suggest not doing it. It's really not worth it. I've heard of a lot of things going wrong with them

I have a factory one in mine I will sell you. I haven't even opened it yet. no reason to let the oven like air rush into my car.

Stay away from aftermarket sunroofs and just learn to accept your car without a sunroof. Aftermarket units look like garbage compared to factory OEM. Plus, it will be more difficult to sell the car if you decide to sell/trade in the future. People who want sunroofs will look for cars with OEM units, not aftermarket.

I agree aftermarket can be a problem in the making. My 2012 45th SS came with it stock and I use it on nice days. The best thing about the sunroof is if you have the drivers window open and you hit 55 or 60 the air sounds like it is thumping in the car from the wind. I open the sunroof to just lift it off the roof and it equalizes the pressure so that sound goes away. When your ready for a future trade than get a sun roof, with aftermarket I can see those leaks now. ED

This subject has been discussed over and over in this forum.

Don't do it!!!!

Why? Because in a Camaro, without a factory sunroof, there is a single structrual support beam running down the center of the roof. When you install an aftermarket sunroof you have to cut this beam, which weakens the roof in the event of a rollover accident. In a Camaro, with a factory sunroof, there are 2 separate support beams, one on each side of the sunroof.

I had a sunroof installed in my 2LT and I love it! The manufacturer that I went with was Signature Automotive Products. They have a pre-bent trim ring to deal with the reverse mohawk.

The only issue that I have dealt with is that if I open it all the way I get some sound buffering from the wind between 40 and 45 mph. All I needed to do was close it about an inch or so to stop it. The unit alows me to set how far the glass panel will open when I press the open button so I just set it and now I'm good to go. The roof opening is bigger then the factory sunroof which is a plus. I also love the fact that it slides into the roof and automatically closes when I shut the car off. $1,100 total cost.

Looks nice. What does the inside look like? Did they keep the oem headliner? Also did they put in an oem switch? Seen a lot of threads on this but haven't seen the inside.

If it's a clean high quality oem-like setup, if you trade it in I bet some dealers won't even recognize the diff...

As far as I know they installed a new headliner. They might have modified the factory headliner and just installed new fabric but I'm not sure. In my opinion it looks much better than the factory sunroof setup. The headliner for the factory sunroof has a trim piece around it that looks cheesy IMO.
The switch comes with the aftermarket sunroof and is surface mounted where the factory switch would go. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.
