Definately no fun right there. I have hit a few big wakes/waves in a bass boat & they are never any fun.

Another reason why operator education should be mandatory. Fountain throttles and trim tabs are configured so you keep your hand on the throttles while you adjust trim. You can see the captain operating the throttles with his hand out of position and his hand off the throttles while he adjusts trim.

The passengers are not safely positioned. When they begin to feel the initial bumps they attempt to get in safer positions. In the end, they are lucky to have only minor injuries. I have been to more than one poker run and seen more than one accident just like the one in the video. Most of those I have seen personally were far more serious with graphic injuries.

It is all good until something bad happens. It could just as easily been me or still could in a fast car.

Crap. I didn't know wakes could be that violent.

I caught air on a Laser (14' sailboat) off a large wake once...got the centerboard almost completely out of the water.

I've been on powerboats before, but my passion has always been sailing

Actually, I've never had heard the term fountain before. Only fast powerboat I've ever been on was the cigarette type powerboats that were out in the 70's & 80's...and that was offshore in Los Angeles (just once). I'm assuming it's some kind of water-jet propulsion of some sort.

Fountain is a manufacturer. Kinda like Chevrolet. The cigarette boat is a generally term for long skinny boats even though Cigarette Racing produces boats.

Reggie Fountain started Fountain Power Boats. Reggie is a legendary racer going back to the Glory Years at Mercury and later in offshore racing.

Cigarette was started by Don Aranow along with a long list of performance boat companies and an offshore racing legend.

Both men were industry leaders and also high profile personalities. Aranow is deceased. Reggie is not currently active in the industry.
