South Carolina State Troopers are Hardcore.
I thought this was too crazy not to post. I know it's long; bear with me.
My guy and I went on a road trip to the Carolinas this past week. We took I-20 out there and I-40 back. He decided to take his black SS rather than my RS (and my car, I'm sure, sat in the driveway crying the whole time we were gone since we stopped at several race tracks and got pictures of the SS. Poor Bella was probably wondering what she'd done wrong! ) Anyway. We wanted to hit the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte so we drove up there Tuesday. We hadn't seen anything on the website to give us pause when we checked it the week previously, but upon arriving in Charlotte we realized that the Democratic National Convention was like... right next to the HOF. OK, awesome. We paid $30 to park only to be told after the fact that the Hall of Fame was closed because of the convention. This made no sense to me, as they blew a big money making opportunity, but I'm sure it was due to security reasons. Anyway-- we were pretty pissed, to say the least. We vented our frustrations while being stuck in DNC traffic for an hour by goosing the throttle of the SS and letting the exhaust on our gas guzzler roar We learned the Hall of Fame would re-open Friday and decided to drive back up to Charlotte the night before, get a hotel room, then hit the HOF on our way out of town. On our way up I-77, we were stopped by a State Trooper who told my guy that he'd been doing 81 in a 70 (We know he was only doing 77 because he saw the trooper pull out behind us and immediately looked at the speedo). Anyway, the trooper... we'll call him Deputy DoGood, proceeded to pull my guy out of the car and take him back over in the weeds. I stayed in the passenger seat, where I heard Deputy DoGood question my guy about whether he had been drinking because my boyfriend was swaying a little (he had lights in his eyes, we'd been in the car for hours and he was tired and nervous). He was adamant that my boyfriend must have been drinking, which my guy denied over and over. So then he began a tirade. "Do you have any prescription pills?" "No." "Cocaine?" "No." "Marijuana?" "No." "Methanphetamines?" "No." "You sure, boy? What you been doin' to make you sway like that, huh?" "I'm nervous, sir." "Why you nervous? Who's the young lady in the passenger seat? That your wife? What y'all doin'?" He asked where we were headed; where we had been; where we were from. My guy explained we were on vacation, and the cop wanted to know everywhere we had stopped and how long we had stayed. This went on for several minutes. A considerable amount of time, during which I started to get mad. And worried my guy would pop attitude at the cop and get arrested. To be fair, the guy was being a douche. Finally he asked if we had any weapons in the car. My guy readily admitted we had a rifle and a pistol, as we planned on target practice with his brother, who we had driven out to see (he is in the Air Force). At this point, Deputy Doofy lost it. He asked if we knew the President was in Charlotte. He accused my boyfriend of driving from Oklahoma to South Carolina to kill the President, and asked to see the guns. Then he asked, again, where we were going and where we were staying, exactly, in Charlotte. My boyfriend said he didn't know and Deputy Doofy raised his voice. "You expect me to believe you drove here all the way from Oklahoma to do target practice with your brother, boy, but you don't know where you're stayin' and the president of our country is in Charlotte?" I was navigating and had booked the hotel room, so my boyfriend was just going where I told him to. At this point, I'd had enough, and leaned out the window with a big smile and said "Sir, he has no clue where we're going. I booked the hotel so I'm navigating." Big smile. Maybe a little lash-batting. The cop paused for maybe a second, then said, "Oh, I see. So you're Goose and he's Maverick?" I laughed and smiled. He gave my guy a warning and let us go, without ever actually seeing the AR-15 or asking any more questions. My guy had started to unload the trunk of the SS (the rifle was buried in the back) for him, but it ended up being unnecessary, I guess. What an experience.

Wow!
I can honestly say I've never experienced anything like that. I've always heard stories about how bad it can be getting stopped by some of the "Good Ol boys" down south.

Sorry about your experience in my home area. Generally speaking, the only "less than OK LEO's" are in the area just outside Myrtle Beach near Conway. I drive 80 on I77 between Charlotte and Columbia and I20 west of Columbia for years and years and have never been stopped.
If you finally made it to the Nascar HOF, did you choke on the ticket prices....they are stupid high. PS: I moved here to get out of working in downtown Charlotte Darryl |

We just finished with the RNC and a visit from the President at our local Community College. The security around here was crazy for the past two weeks. Them good ol'e boys were just doing their jobs ...

I'm sorry but I fail to see the story here. I wasn't there but it seems like the man was doing his job and you were speeding with weapons in your car at a time when every law enforcement official in the state was on high alert.
