Hey all. Just got my ZL1! Love it. Not a big fan of incandescent bulbs and was wondering if anyone had problems with putting 35W HIDs in the projector fog lights (very bottom set). Not talking about the DRLs but the actual projectors that take H11 55W bulbs. Usually 55W halogens put off the same if not more heat than 35W HIDs but wanted to see if anyone had any problems with this before hand. Last thing I want is to melt the housing or something.

are you talking driving lights housing or fog light housing?
I am thinking of trying 35w hid in my fogs. I did the V-led 5k bulbs in my driving lights and they almost match perfect. I tried them in the H11 fogs and not so much. they don't match at all. Just trying to decide 4300k or 5000k.

I'm talking about the fog lights. They have a PROJECTOR housing and use 55W halogens. I want to replace that with 35W HIDs. I don't think it'd melt the housings. The DRLs I have ordered 7.5W P13W LEDs for. I just wanted to see if anyone else put HIDs in the foglights yet. People don't seem to understand that ZL1s have 2 sets of lights unlike the other Camaro models... I have already ordered a 6K HID kit for the fogs and think that'll look pretty cool.

I think 6k will be more to the blue side. I just put 6k in my dart and they are more to the blue hue than my ZL1.
I had 5k in my 300c it would be closer to oem for sure. they were more blue than my OEM Z06 was though so 4300k might be the ticket.

There are some LED H11s out there, but I have never met an LED replacement bulb that lasted without an inline convertor. http://i805.photobucket.com/albums/y...AAC/ZL1H11.jpg http://www.phastekperformance.com/20...ro-zl1-h11.htm

that depends on the Wattage of the ballast. a 55W 6000K kit is about the same color as a 35W 5000K setup. the more power it's using, the more the color gets washed out.

Not sure about the ZL1 but I do know if you switch out the RS DRLs for the non-RS Foglight housing they wont melt. Thats what I had to do. As you can see in my signature.

No one is answering my question... I don't want LEDs in the fog lights, that won't be bright enough. I want to know if the 35W HID kit is going to be too hot and melt the fog light housing. Or to hear from ANYONE that has put a drop in HID 35W kit into the ZL1 projector fog lights...

You know what they say about assumption being the mother of all f ups,
right? Those HID's get hot. I would make sure they are glass, or you could end up replacing the complete assembly. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

it ain't always about the lens - it also has to do with the reflector: some are metal and others are plastic. and if you wanna get technical, not all projectors are made for HIDs. the reflector design (and sometimes the lens shape) change based on if it was made for a specific bulb type (which determines the focal point of the fixture therefore changing the output efficiency)
