possible Dash, Ambiant lighting retrofit.
I haven't been on here for some time, but thought I would make a statement about "Ambiant lighting" across the Dash. My wife has a new 2011 Buick Lacrosse, CXL, and the interior is loaded with Ambiant lighting everywhere. It has it across the dash, where our Camaros only have it on the doors. I checked with my parts Manager to see if the lighting tubes could be purchased, and was told they are part of the dash trim only. I pulled the short side trim piece off on the buick and could see the "light tube" it is held in place by a couple of Hot Glue spots and appears that it could be removed without to much trouble. When lit, the light is exactly the same color as the "Blue lighting on the Camaro doors. I am thinking of trying to retrofit the "Buick" lights to the Camaro Dash trim pieces. The new "Buick" Dash trim pieces can be purchased for $56.00, for short side, and $89.00 for the long side. Part #'s Short side 9071-870, long side 9074-272. The lamps have plugs on them, so hopefully there is already a plug in the dash wiring harness of the Camaro, since it was a last minute deleat by GM.

I'm assuming you did measure that the sides are each the same length as those of the camaro?

Has anyone used this yet? How difficult was it? and does anyone have any kits for the rest of the door panel? I'd love to wrap the blue completely around the white center piece of the door instead of just on the top of it.

If they are only hot glued from the factory I don't think there would be a need for extra time & money spent on retro fit work. It's all good thoughts though.

I bought the kit from Ofer that included a light tube. For some reason the light was great on the ends but the middle was to dim. In order to get an even amount of light all the way across I bought EL wire in addition to the light tube. The EL wire is the exact same color as the doors.
Actual install took a couple of hours but trying to get the light even took several more hours of troubleshooting. The lighting is hard to see but here are some pics. |

When I installed the lamps for the dash I used three lamps. My dash is nice and bright. I bought my lamps from GM and the tube from offer. My car had the plugs but if your car is a 2010 with a vin you might not have them. There is a DIY on the location of the wires to tap into. This mod really should of come with the car stock.
