LG Motorsports ZL1 Testing on track
Hey guys,
Along with our 'Pumkin' 2010 Camaro SS we started track testing and running some baseline runs at Eagles Canyon Race way the other weekend to get a feel for the car and shake it down before starting a new product line for the car. First things first, if you are going to track the car, and most of us know this already....BLEED THE BRAKES WITH GOOD FLUID! First session out we already had Endless fluid in the car with no other changes. Brake pads, the stock pads while they are better than the SS will not last on a medium to heavy braking track. We were seeing brake fade within 3-4 laps at ECR (http://www.eaglescanyon.com/2008/facilities.php). For the rest of the day on Saturday we choose to run the Hawk DTC-70 pads for a much improved braking performance that was consistent every lap that day with no brake pedal fade. Sunday we switched over to our favorite pad, the Cobalt Friction XR2 compound. Giving us better initial bite and a great braking torque curve. The XR2 compound is something we have raced with for years in the Corvettes and in the ZL1 it never disappoints here either! After two days on track for those of you wanting to seriously run these cars they do like more camber in the front (we were running stock tires at this point), and the rears seem to wear pretty evenly with factory settings. Video of both cars on track coming soon! Last edited by Anthony @ LG Motorsports; 11-08-2012 at 04:53 PM. |

I will say this, the car ran every session without failure.

Question
Anthony, I ran your headers on my 08 Z06 & car performed nice. I could tell the difference in drive ability as soon as I pulled away from my shop. Car seemed to have more noticeable low end torque as well as power through out the range. Would it be reasonable to expect the same results on a ZL1. If I can't get some better perf out of this car I'm going back to a corvette. This thing is a pig on gas & my lightly modded 6 cly. grand national can run away from it.

One thing this will not make up for is the car's 4000+lb curb weight. While the suspension and tires do a good job with the car on track that is still a hard thing to overcome when your running with a C6 Z06 on track. Fuel mileage with a blown car of that weight....will never compare to a NA light weight Z06. I think we were seeing 3.8 to 4.2 mpg on track with the car at ECR that weekend. FYI the GrandAm GT Corvette will get 5.6 to 5.8. |

For $5k you can get a ZL1 quicker than a ZR1

On a side note, what brake pads would you recommend for someone who uses thier ZL1 as a daily driver, visits the Roadcourse every few weeks, but dosent want to switch pads everytime they go to the track? My OEM pads need to be replaced and I would like slighlty better performance. Someone had mentioned the Hawk Ceramic pads work better than OEM once they are well heated? I know you mentioned a couple of pads in your intiial post, but are those track only pads, or are they suitable for street use as well?
