I use a battery tender junior year round when the car is parked. I cut a slit in a cap plug near the battery and connected it to the terminals and the jack just extends outside the trunk. The other end is just a wall pack and I just plug the two together when I back into the garage. Works great and very inexpensive ($22.69 at Amazon) and you can order extension cables if you park outside.

I leave my battery disconnected all year round. I connect it when I need to fire up the car and move it about and then I disconnect again. I know this can throw codes for the emissions/02 sensors, but I haven't had that problem and I've been doing it this way for some years now.
A good battery tender is your best bet if you don't want to disconnect the battery. Good luck. |

I use a battery tender as well with my other vehicles and motorcycles, my question with the ZL1, is, can I connect the battery tender to the remote locations under the hood used for jump starting a drained battery, or must I connect directly to the battery ?

I picked up the battery tender jr also based on some recommendations here and its working perfectly. Hook it up directly to the battery in the trunk and leave it.

I have a Battery Tender, hooked directly to batt. The kit came with clips and hardwire so I guess you clould use the clips underhood.

I use a Battery Tender. It is hard wired under the hood. Works well.

Which Battery Charger to choose.
Don't be fooled by some chargers that are labeled "trickle" chargers, they stay on charging at a low amperage and can boil a battery over time. For best performance over a long time buy a fully automatic switch-mode battery charger and maintainer like this one. They restore batteries to their original capacity, recovers slightly sulfated batteries, charges batteries in cold climates, rescues drained batteries and provides maintenance charging to increase battery life.
