The Z28 Freakout

As most of you have seen the Z28 is being released for 2014. Almost made me sick as I saw the post, just got my ZL1 last month.

Only real difference I can see is the 7L vs our 6.2 SC. But after reading about it seems if they are just stripping out a ZL1. Taking out speakers using cheaper but lighter tail lights, windshield, back seat.

Now I don't feel so bad, I am happy with my little bit heavier but better made ZL1. Anything to add?

The carbon ceramic brakes are a "real" difference as well. Also the lightweight wheels and race tires. I still prefer the ZL1, but the Z28 will be a road course monster.

No reason to be sick. Unless you plan to track your ZL1 over 50% of the time you are behind the wheel, you have the right car.

I don't think it would take much to make the ZL1 a faster track car than the Z/28, from what I understand the LS7 isn't a very good engine to supercharge. I am sure we will be hearing of all kinds of contests between these two cars both stock and modified!

Those new Recaro seats in that Z28 are pretty nice as well.

Guys, it's not a competition. The Z/28 is made for a totally different purpose than the ZL1. The majority of ZL1 owners would not like the Z/28.

Lets not turn this into a situation of ZL1 vs Z/28. That would be short sighted. They are both really awesome cars and be happy for first what GM one with this platform, and second for those that have been waiting so long for he rerun of theZ/28.

One more point, don't think it would have been as easy to obtain a Z/28 as it is to get a ZL1.

I'm totally stoked to see the release of this new car.

I wonder if they will make the Z/28 brakes an option on the ZL1

Doubt it. Those brakes aren't meant for a daily driver.

Why not? The ZR1 has them and they are fine on the street.

They are the same rotors - different brakes. And out of curiosity - how many ZR1 daily driver's do you see?

Also, the rear glass on the Z/28 is thinner - not cheaper.

Is ceramic brakes like carbon brakes where daily street driving is not aggressive enough to get use out of them?

Brakes.... Not breaks.

Big difference.

And trust me you do not want to drive those on the street unless you have very deep pockets.

At least 4 I know of between home and work. One is 2 office buildings down from me.

Those brakes are supposed to last a very long time with street use, but when they do need to be replaced they are NOT cheap.
