I purchased a set of kooks 1 7/8" headers with a street sleeper catback and high flow cats. Finally got to get them installed. I have noticed that they make a tapping sound. It only does it when I make turns or drive on bumpy roads, then it really gets annoying. I love the sound of the exhaust with headers but any way to fix this issue? Thanks in advance !

You'll have to check your clearance around the entire system. Try to pinpoint where the sound is coming from to the best of your ability. Then get your car back up in the air and try to track down the sound.....try to wiggle the system to see if you can find where it might be making contact. Best thing to do is loosen all the clamps on the system and try to get enough clearance around anything that might need it. A popular spot is the driveshaft tunnel brace, especially if you went with the 3" system. You can add some washers to it for the extra clearance you need.

I have had issues with Kooks headers impacting my steering column. This is most noticeable when making turns.

See if you see any grinding affects on your steering column near the driver header.

I just have a catback and I am experiencing tapping noises when going over bumps too. I just don't have any noises while turning. I'm suspecting my exhaust is hitting the tunnel brace when I go over bumps. I plan on getting under my car and loosening all the clamps and aligning the exhaust some more to see if I can get better clearance and to see if that resolves the tapping issue.

Thanks guys im going to try & pinpoint it out it sounds like its coming from up front though. Ill definetly be taking it back to the shop & get it fixed.

I had the same problem when i got my borla atak catback. check your tunnel brace clearance, chances are your new pipes are hitting it.

Exactly. I had this and it was driving me nuts. I bought the Elite Engineering Tunnel Brace and it took care of it, looks fine and was manufactured nicely.

I jacked my car up last night and re-adjusted my catback. It has plenty of clearance now on the tunnel brace and now there is no more rattling when I drive around, including if I go over bumps.

It might sag again and make contact over time. Just an FYI!

I'd recommend driving about 50-100 miles and check and re-tighten the connections once more. This will prevent it from shifting again over time.

No problem! Hopefully the rain doesn't last long Saturday, its supposed to be about 70*! There is also an auto X Saturday and Sunday out at Miller. I'm hoping to make it on Sunday. You should check it out if you get the chance!
