ZL1 - 1500 miles at last

I finally reached 1500 miles on 4/17/2013 (took 4 months)
Took it to dealer today for:

1. oil and oil filter change (Castrol Edge with Titanium)
2. 1500 mile inspection
3. installed skid plate/scrape protector under front spoiler
4. had the little donut spare tire mounted on rim

I feel a whole lot better going on road trips now.

FYI the donut spare tire kit is GM part number 19257799 includes:

1. scissor jack
2. lug wrench/jack handle
3. donut spare tire (must be mounted on rim)
4. rim

You are right, I just tested the 18 X 4 spare tire donut on
my ZL1. GM part #19257799

The 18 inch wheel will not clear the front Brembo brake.
It would destroy the brake caliper if it was torqued all the way down.
I am returning the spare tire kit for a refund.
apparently GM does not make a ZL1 spare tire donut.

Will the donut spare fit over the rear brakes.
If it does fit and you have a flat on the front.
You may end up putting a tire from the rear on
the front and then put the spare on the back.

Kinda dumb not having a suitable/useable spare
that can be used at all four corners ~

Will that wide 20x11 wheel fit in the front without rubbing if you had to do that?

DID YOU GET THE FRONT SPRING SPACERS THAT ARE NEEDED TO FLAT TOW THE ZL1?
MANY TIMES AT THE INITIAL INSPECTION THEY ARE THROWN AWAY. THEY NEED TO BE INSTALLED BEFORE YOU HAVE A TOW TRUCK LOAD IT ONTO A FLAT BED. MINE WERE YELLOW AND THE DEALER HAD TO ORDER ME A SET AFTER THE TECH THREW THEM AWAY AT THE PRE DELIVERY INSPECTION

I did not test mounting the 18 inch donut wheel on back.
I was furious that GM did not think to design a spare tire donut
specifically for the ZL1 20 inch wheels and large Brembo brakes.

I will have to use that inflation/sealant device that came with car
and pray that I don't have a flat when taking road trips.

You might want to look here, I don't think there is any difference in the SS and ZL1 brakes, the adapter is what makes it all work. I would be a little skeptical about using the spare on the rear ( limited slip) rearend,, and I don't know if the 10" wide rear rims would work on the front if needed. Please let us know what you find out. I would feel better having a real spare, but even a doughnut would get you home.

I've heard the rears do NOT fit on the front. they are too wide and rub (significantly).
