A couple more dumb questions
Ok! I haven't messed with car audio in years!
I'm almost done installing my sub and mono amp. I'm running a 4 gauge power wire from the POS into a fuse block and going to probably run 8 gauge from the fuse to the amp. How in the hell do I find a ring terminal large enough for 8AWG but small enough to fit onto the amps screw down clamp? Also: Do I ground the amp to a chassis ground? Or NEG on the battery? Third: If I have a ******** box for the drivers side and a ******** box on the passenger side, how can I wire them both to a mono amp? (Alpine VR500)

Ring Terminal? - Stereo Shop?
Usually you ground to the chassis. 2 subs to a mono amp? I think you just hook both cables up to the same output if there is only 1 output. |

You can run 2 pairs of speaker wires, 1 to each sub from the amp, no problem there.

I was also wondering if you should ground to the negative terminal of the battery or the chassis. Is there a factory ground somewhere in the trunk we can bolt to? Also, is it better to run multiple grounds to the same point? What about using a distribution block for grounds?

if you are wiring your subs in parallel, just make sure your amp can handle the lower impedance... don't want to fry your amp cause it can't handle it...
wiring parallel is what the folks above recommended, which is the most common, but it halves the impedance the amp sees. so, if you have 2 dual 4 ohm subs in parallel, the amp will see a 1 ohm load... some amps can't handle this. if you are just running 2 single 4 ohm subs, the amp sees 2 ohms, and a majority (if they are sub amps) should be able to run this no problem. just want to be sure you are taking care of your equipment. |
