Very Disapointed

First and foremost, i have to say that i love my car, but one thing is starting to piss me off now. Gas milage. I have a 2LT/RS M6 for those who dont know, and have about 700 km on it (Canadian Car). About 15km were highway. This car is honestly reading 16 L/100km! And thats me shifting 98% of the time just before 3000 rpm. Ocassionally taking it to 4000. Im driving her slow and im getting this reading and now my car is sitting on the driveway. I havent broken her in yet, but after break in, im going to be pushing her hard, and im afraid to see what its going to read. The Challenger RT i was in last time which was being ran VERY hard, read 19L/100km. And thats a 5.7 hemi.
Is anyone else getting very bad milage out of their v6?
16L is just ridiculous and im afraid what it will be after break in, remember, this car has never been past 4000 rpm and i literly shift between 2-3000 rpm.
Can my car just be an odd gas guzzler or are they all like this?

Check this thing. The plug that goes into the air intake after the filter. Make sure it is plugged in. I unplugged mine last night and plugged it back in to make sure it was good and tight and my car got peepier and gas milage driving around today went up around 4 miles per gallon.

It is the air sensor.

Pink, is that city and highway mixed? If its purely city, are you pushing her hard?

Yes, I have been driving my car fairly hard. When i take off from a redlight I always go over 3000 rpms. My trip to work everyday is 15 miles, for the first 7 miles or so it's highway then its redlight after redlight. So i guess about 50/50 hwy-city.

converted its 14.7 mpg. All city, and shifting before 3000 rpm 98% of the time. The car only has 700 clicks but i dont think break in has anything to do with it, for the first 400 clicks the car was getting between 14-15l/100km, 15.6 -16.8 mgp, now its gotten worse with the same driving. I think my car might have somthing wrong with it

take it in!! If you're shifting before 3000 rpms you should be getting better mpgs than that.

Dennis, your car isn't even broken in. Wait until you have 2,500 kms on it.

but its getting worse, i did take that into consideration until i saw my cars fuel economy going downhill with more km on it.
Hylton, when did your car start getting better on gas?
And just a side note question, everyone is telling me that after 1000 km, that its ok to drive her hard, should i wait till 2500km?

You are nowhere near being broken in yet. At 1,000 kms, I increased the load and RPM on the engine but no balls to the wall activity. Have some patience and take it on a long drive somewhere.
